How are The Day of the Dead and Halloween the same and different? I know some of their similarities and differences. I am going to compare and contrast these two holidays.
First, The Day of the Dead and Halloween share the same day; October 31, except The Day of the Dead lasts until November second. Similarly, The Day of the Dead and Halloween both use a lot of pumpkins and skulls for food and symbols. Also, The Day of the Dead celebrates family that is dead and Halloween celebrates the afterlife of death.
Unlike Halloween, The Day of the Dead came from 2,500 to 3,000 years ago, but Halloween started 2,000 years ago. However, The Day of the Dead was created in Mexico and Halloween was created in Ireland. Still, The Day of the Dead is when you go to a graveyard to put out candles, flowers, and food for the dead. On Halloween, you dress up in costumes and go to other people’s houses for candy.
These are my three similarities and differences. It’s nice to know Halloween was created in Ireland and The Day of the Dead was created in Mexico. This is how Halloween and The Day of the Dead are the same and different.
