Welcome to 6th Grade Math with Mrs.Savage :)

Welcome to 6th Grade Math with Mrs.Savage :)

Hello 6th grade math Vikings!
My name is Mrs. Savage and I’m excited to be your teacher this year. I graduated from the University of Michigan and studied math and science. Go BLUE! I’ve been an educator for sixteen wonderful years. I also graduated from O.L. Smith, so I’m a Viking just like you.

We will begin Unit 2, The Number system on November 25th.

In our classroom we work as a team and will build our Growth Mindset together, this means we do our best to remain positive, we know we can achieve anything with effort and mistakes help us learn.

When entering our classroom:
*Always be prepared and bring the following: pencils, math binder, planner, and 2 math workbooks- Instruction and Practice
*Be ready to be an active learner. Raise your hand, take notes, show work, have a good attitude, keep trying, bounce back, and stay focused.
*Always show respect for everyone in the room, we want to lift others so they do their best. Remember, we are a team, this means: we look for other’s strengths, we show gratitude, build each other up with positive words, and we care about the team’s success.

Having trouble?
*Be proactive- if you’re having trouble you need to come and see me right away so I can help.

Homework
*I will try to post the textbook’s ‘Family Letter’ on this iBlog, it is filled with helpful steps for the each lesson. You MUST try to do your homework, I will not accept “I didn’t know how to do it”. I need to see you ‘tried’ to set up the problem using class notes or the Family Letter. You can also call a friend (a study buddy) to see if they can walk you through a problem and offer advice. If you get stuck on one problem, keep trying to do the rest.

Study Tips
Taking notes during class is really important, you can refer to class examples for homework and when studying for a quiz or test. I will pass out helpful handouts that you can keep in your Math Binder (previously referred to as your Interactive Notebook). Collect two or three classmates phone numbers, they will be your friend to call when you’re stuck 🙂 You can also call them if you’re absent and need the assignment.

Absent Work
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to turn in any and all work missed. You will have 2 days for each day you are excused from school to complete make-up work. If tests or quizzes are announced prior to your absence, you will take it when you return. I will have a calendar and hanging file folders on our classroom corkboard. This is where you’ll find classwork and homework assignments along with handouts you missed.
