Peek at the Week June 1-5, 2020

Dear Vikings,

I hope to see you tomorrow afternoon for “Belonging Pick-up’ from 11:00-3:00. Last week, the school asked you to fill out a form requesting items from your locker.

I am asking all students to have ALL fourth quarter assignments turned in by Sunday, June 7th 2020. The last day of school is June 11th, please work extra hard to get all assignments turned in. I am always available to help at our class BBB meetings on Tuesday and my Office Hour meeting on Thursday from 12:00-1:00. You’ll notice 6th grade math teachers are giving a ‘Catch-up’ day on Friday, I hope this helps 🙂

Take care and stay safe,

Laura Savage

Peek at the of Week of May 26-29, 2020

Hello Vikings,

We have a long weekend, there will be no school on Monday, May 25th. We will remember and honor the, brave women and men, who have protected our country. I have posted the 6th grade calendar on my iLearn Office Hour class page and I’ll also post it here. I’ve included a picture of my iLearn page, the students know how to navigate their way there because it’s where we have our Big Blue Button (BBB) meetings. Teachers are accepting late assignments, so please make sure to check Student Connect to see if your child has any missing work. I have an Office Hour BBB meeting every Thursday from 12:00-1:00pm, students work on different Khan or iReady assignments while in my meeting. This gives them a chance to work on their assignments and ask questions. Often students will help each other and explain their thinking on the whiteboard, I love the teamwork that is being done during this time.

If you have any questions, please reach out, we have thirteen school days left. Let’s get those assignments in, we got this!

Week of May 18-21, 2020

Week of May 18-21, 2020

Hello Viking Family,

We have a four day school week the next two weeks. We have this Friday, May 22, and next Monday, May 25th off. I have been taking classes and learning how to use Dearborn’s iLearn platform, this is where the Big Blue Button is located. I posted this week’s calendar and other fun updates for students under my Office Hour class. I’m excited to start using all iLearn has to offer.

This week 6th graders will start exploring 3D shapes, they’ll have assignments on Khan Academy and not iReady. They should have a total of 15 My Path lessons, this would be a good week to catch up. I sent an email last week to all parents letting them know to check Student Connect for missing assignments, not Google Classroom. It is more accurate and makes sense to check one place.

I will have BBB meetings on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Last week we had a fun game session on Friday to relax and have some fun. We played Pictionary and answered a few questions, Would You Rather?.

Enjoy this four day school week!

Ms.Savage

The week of May 11-15, 2020

The week of May 11-15, 2020

Happy Mother’s day to all the Vikings moms, I hope you have a wonderful day filled with beautiful memories.

I’m using Big Blue Button for all our video meetings, the kids seemed to really enjoy using this platform. They were able to share their thinking by working problems out on the whiteboard. On Tuesdays, classes will meet based on their hour: 2nd hour 1:00pm, 3rd hour 1:30pm, and 4th hour 2:00pm. On Thursdays, I have put all classes together to answer any questions from the week 12:00-1:00pm. They only have to join us if they have questions.

This Friday I wanted to do something a little different. I’m going to use the Big Blue Button, Office Hour class, to have some fun. I’m going to play a game with the students who show up from 12:00-12:30pm. This is not on the calendar and it is not mandatory. I just thought it would be fun to play a game and lift our spirits.

As always, if you have any questions please reach out to me through email or use my Google Voice number to call or text 313. 454.1062. Enjoy your weekend.

I also wanted to give a BIG thank you to all the parents and students who put together the Teacher Appreciation Video I watched on Facebook. I was filled with so much joy when I saw all your thoughtful messages, I immediately smiled 😀 Thank you for lifting me with your kindness.

Big Blue Button, BBB

Hello Parents and Students,

This week I was trained on how to use the Big Blue Button (BBB) on iLearn. I will be trying it out this week for those students and parents who want to join me and ask any questions. The access code is on your child’s Google Classroom for my class. You’ll find this same document, but with the access code. This document will just walk you through how to get to iLearn and what to expect it to look like. Please email me if you have any questions. Enjoy this beautiful week,

Ms.Savage
