The students, parents, staff and I had a wonderful time at the skating fundraiser last week.  Thank you very much to those who came and supported our school.  Also congratulations to the two members who won the birthday prize.  Here are some pictures from last Tuesday’s event.

Spring Parent Teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday 3/7 from 4pm to 7 p.m.  Progress reports will be passed out that evening in the auditorium before meeting with the teachers.  If you have any questions or concerns please make sure to stop by my conference so we could talk. The time limit per conference will be 5 minutes and I hope to meet you.

This week in science:

  • We didn’t get a chance to begin on this project last week.  We will design an energy-efficient home that minimizes thermal energy loss as we relate this to helping the penguins living in the southern hemisphere.
    • Students will be building some of the materials at home then test them in class; they will also be given time in class to revise and re-test. 
    • Some of the material students might be in need of : Insulator/Conducting materials (students bring in these items): thin wood, cardboard, styrofoam,  plastic wrap, aluminum foil (abundant amount available in the classroom) .
    • Per group…students might need to bring hot glue guns, hot glue gun glue sticks
    • Possible additions: saran wrap for windows
  • We will relate what we discovered from our mini thermal energy labs we have completed in the past few weeks.
  • A-Day students will participate in a Gallery walk to present and explain their “Chill-Out” lab findings.
  • I will also review the 3 methods of thermal energy transfer (radiation, conduction, convection) as I post the lecture powerpoint on Google Classroom.
  • In honor of African American History month students were assigned an African American Scientist to research by themself or their partner.   Further directions will be posted on Google Classroom {Due on Thursday 3/15  for B-Day students , and on Wednesday 3/14  for A-Day students} .
  • I will be absent Thursday afternoon due to a scheduled  NGSS science meeting.
  • African American project assignment was posted on Google Classroom for students to work on.
