Our first outdoor Fall Festival was a great joy to be part of. Thank you to all the PTSA, parents, students and volunteers who helped make this a great success. It was nice to see students and families outside of the classroom!

Last week in Science:

  • Students were given time to edit and finalize their Forest Model from Lesson 2.
  • C.E.R.E.R.C was lesson 2’s summative assignment after students completed 4 lab stations , a summary table and the Forest Model. The latter resources were used to complete the C.E.R.E.R.C.
  • An overview summary of Lesson 2 showing different ways water eventually made it to our streams and rivers was posted on Google Classroom.
  • Students completed a quiz online to assess their knowledge on Lesson 1 (challenge scenario and effect of the Colorado River).
  • The 2 lab stations for lesson 3 were partially open for practice and exploration as students were working on the assignments listed above.
  • Lesson 3 lab data was shared and communicated as a class. I am also including the lab data below for students who were absent or do not have it.
  • Lesson 3 (6.1.3) lab Data–> Stations A & B
    • Station A- Celery Stalk Model – 100 ml of water was poured into each beaker with 2 drops of food coloring. After the models were placed in a shady spot and sunny spot for 48 hours, the ending results were: Shady Spot= 94 ml , Sunny Spot = 86ml
    • Station B- Tiny puddles Model -> Shady Spot = 8 min 44 seconds or 8:44, Sunny Spot = 1 min 30 secs or 1:30
  • Students were assigned to complete their lab reflection (Google Classroom).

This week in Science, students will:

  • Share and finalize their CER from Lesson 2.
  • Share their findings and reflections from lesson 3’s Lab stations to answer the Challenge Question below:
    • Does all of the water that falls as precipitation, make it to the river?  If not, where does it go?
  • Have the opportunity to see me on Monday after advisory to retake Lesson 2 quiz if they received 50% or less.

The checklist students will use to assess their learning and findings from lesson 3 and answer the challenge question above are:

  1. How the sun is related to the movement of water from the Earth
  2. How water changes state during each step of this process.
  3. How plants affect the movement of water.

Our vocabulary words for Lesson 3 were: evaporation and transpiration.
