Last week in Science:

  • We started our NGSS Systems Engineering Model lesson as students were introduced with the Challenge Question of the week:
    • What are ways to understand how a bicycle system works?
  • Students worked in small groups of 3-4 young scientists and engineers to answer the Challenge Question above using 2 means
    • Bubble map graphic organizer and a picture model.
  • This was their first Science summative group assignment.
  • Students also participated in a group Gallery Walk as they visited other scientist tables to revise and evaluate their peers projects.
  • A-Day students have completed their project however, B-Day students need one more day in class to finalize their work.
  • The project will be worth 20 summative points using the following categories:
    • Did you print your full name clearly on the poster?  (2 points)
    • Does your bicycle system model answer your team questions? (10 points)
    • Does your bubble map include our team’s 5 questions and Challenge Question?   ( 3 points)
    • Did you do your part in research, collaboration and illustration? (5 points)
  • Total points possible are 20 SUMMATIVE POINTS

This week in Science:

  • We will begin our first NGSS 6th Grade Science Unit on Water.
  • The Challenge Question for this lesson is “ How does human development affect how water moves through our community? “
  • Our objectives for this week’s lesson (6.1) are:
    • I can communicate my prior knowledge and experience of where water is found in our community orally or in writing.
    • I can communicate my prior knowledge and experience of whether or not humans can impact the water system in my community orally or in writing.

Lastly, progress reports will be sent home this week for students receiving a C- or less in Science or other subjects. Continuously check “Parent Connect” or “Student Connect” for old or new assignments graded.

Assignments due this week are:

  1. Bicycle Systems model (20 Summative points )
  2. Learning Plan posted on Google Classroom (10 Formative points)
