Good evening!
Last week students shared their research findings about a prominent African American scientist through a Gallery Walk. They also discussed what they believed, scientifically, whether something was living or not.
This week in Science students continue with their investigation about certain characteristics living things have that non-living things don’t. (Unit 6.2, Lesson 3)
Lesson 3 Question: How do we know if something is living?
Lesson 3 Gotta Have Checklist (Lesson outline)
- How living things have certain characteristics that non living things do not have.
- How all living things are made of cells.
- How the number of cells can vary between organisms.
- How and why different tools are needed to study cells.
They will identify and describe evidence to support their claim that living things are made up of one or more cells. Students will also describe how tools allow them to collect data and observe phenomena on cells, which occur at a smaller scale and cannot be seen with the naked eye. They will also identify and describe evidence to support the claim that scientists tolerate ambiguity, where data cannot come to a conclusion.
