Free smoke alarms and free installation
designed to save lives
Call 313-943-2134 to schedule appointment now
with Fire Department

DEARBORN, Mich. –  Beginning on Monday, Feb. 8, residents of Dearborn and Melvindale can call to have the Fire Department install free smoke alarms at their homes.
Funded through a competitive federal grant, the program provides the free installation of the free alarms to any owner-occupied household, regardless of income. They cannot be installed in rental properties. They will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
For safety reasons, the free alarms must be installed by the department or its community partners, and so an appointment must be scheduled.
Call 313-943-2134 to set up an appointment for installation.

Salina students send money to Flint

Students in Mrs Ali’s class donated money they previously raised for the city of Flint.  They wrote the Mayor telling her to use the money to buy things they need so children can drink clean water.  As a school, Salina kids will be bringing in more money so we can add to their donation.

Happy Birthday MLK!!

I spoke with the students this week about Dr. Martin Luther King. I told them the story that Dr. Martin Luther King’s father told him when he was a little boy. It went something like this……

When Martin was a little boy, experiencing the bigotry and inequalities as the result of the color of his skin, he became very angry. So angry, that he would fight. One day, his father sat him down and spoke to him about his anger. He told him that we are all born with “seeds of greatness.” Every time we do the right thing, our seeds of greatness grow. When we do something wrong, those seeds don’t grow. We must always do the things that will make our seeds of greatness grow. We must fight prejudice , ignorance and wrong doings with words and peaceful actions.

Have a wonderful weekend. I am not in town for the Dearborn March this Monday, but I will be there in spirit. I am so proud to be part of this beautiful community!!!
