Dearborn Public Schools
Dear STEAM Families,
Thank you for your continued support throughout our online learning experience. The week of April 6-10 is a scheduled Spring Break for all Dearborn Public Schools. Students will not have any assignments to work on for my class during the break (the quiz that is due today will not be available for students beyond today).
Please focus on your health and well-being while enjoying your time with your families!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
I hope that you are all safe and well!
I have been trying to reach some parents but some phone numbers are not accepting calls from blocked numbers or numbers are not in service. Please change this setting so that your child’s teachers can communicate with you.
Also, please follow up with your children at home to ensure they are completing ALL of their work for ALL of their classes. Some students did not complete their prototypes, but have already completed the quiz that is due tomorrow. That means they are choosing which assignments to do as opposed to doing them all.
Lastly, the EDP quiz must be completed through Google Classroom by tomorrow afternoon. Students will not have work to complete during Spring Break (April 6-10).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
By the end of the day today, all students should have emailed me pictures and descriptions of their prototypes (descriptions must briefly explain what problem the prototype addresses and how the prototype works).
Also, I have assigned a quiz on the Engineering Design Process and the concepts of Invention and Innovation on Google Classroom. All quizzes must be completed by Friday (before Spring Break). Students are not allowed to use their notes, the Internet, or other sources when taking the quiz (including asking people for help).
Thank you for your support throughout our online learning experience! I am truly impressed with the prototype pictures I have received so far!
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
Please review the following resource to help guide you in setting and planning online learning schedules at home for your children! The resource is attached in English and in Arabic.
Dear STEAM Parents,
I called and spoke with many parents on Monday to communicate with them regarding their children’s online learning progress. I left voicemail messages when possible, but unfortunately some phone numbers are not in service, not accepting calls or have voice mailboxes that are full. Please email me if you have any questions about your child’s online learning experience at any time.
Students should be working on their prototype project at home this week. Parents, please DO NOT need go out and buy anything for your children to make their prototypes at home! Also, please DO NOT allow your children to leave the house to go to a friend’s house to work on this project. I have repeatedly emphasized this with all of my students. It is important that you and your families are safe and at home during this pandemic!! This project no longer involves partner work, even if students worked with a partner prior to schools closing. Every student must submit an image of their individual prototype. Students should be creative and use things they might have at home (cardboard, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, paper towel tubes, aluminum foil, construction or computer paper, containers, bottle caps, etc.). The prototypes do not have to be working or perfect! If a student absolutely cannot find anything at home to use for the prototype, they must draw a VERY DETAILED and COLORFUL sketch of their prototype (parts are distinguishable, labeled, etc.). Please take pictures of your completed prototypes and email them to me with a description of the problem that your prototype addresses! I will share some of the prototype images on my iBlog.
Prototype images must be emailed to me by Monday. Please let me know if you have any questions. During the day, I typically respond within an hour or two at most! I am here to support you!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
I created an assignment in Google classrooms informing my students that they need to continue working on step 5 of the EDP which is constructing their prototype this week (by March 30)! Here is a copy of the assignment instructions I included for the students:
Students, please continue working on step 5 of the EDP which is constructing your prototype! You DO NOT need to go out and buy anything to make your prototype! Please DO NOT leave your homes and DO NOT ask your parents to leave the house to buy things. It is important that you and your families are safe and at home during this pandemic!! Be creative and use things you have at home (cardboard, cereal boxes, tissue boxes, paper towel tubes, aluminum foil, etc.). Please take pictures of your completed prototypes and email them to me with a description of the problem that your prototype addresses! If you were working with a partner, I would still like for you to make your own prototype at home because we are practicing social distancing which means you are not visiting each other! If you would like to change the problem that your prototype is addressing you may do that (basically you can start all over if you choose). I have attached a copy of the STEAM Invention vs. Innovation Project PowerPoint that we already went over in class in case you need to review it.
I will post pictures of your prototypes on my iBlog! You do not need to wait until the March 30 deadline to email me the pictures. I will post pictures as soon as I receive them! I am so excited to see the creative work of my STEAM Enrichment students! 😊
Parents, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
Some students have been active in participating in completing their STEAM assignment through Google Classroom and all but five students have accepted the Google Classroom invitation.
I am most happy about the communication taking place between the students and myself. There are students who are reaching out, asking questions about their enrichment work, and taking advantage of all of the remote learning opportunities available to them.
I emailed all students yesterday requiring them to send me an email checking in. This is my way of knowing who has access to technology at home and who is checking their email and Google Classroom at home. Next week, I will call the parents of students who I do not hear from by Sunday night.
Parents, it is important that you remind your children that the online work being prepared for them by their teachers is essential to their success. In addition students should be working on their hands- on Engineering Design Process project at home. I check my email and Google classroom all day through my phone (my response time is no longer than 2 hours). When we work together as a Salina family, we can ensure the success of our students!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
Dear STEAM Families,
I have invited all of my students to join Google Classroom for their class period. Not every student has accepted the invite. Also, there are students who accepted the invite but have been inactive (haven’t submitted the assignment that is due by Sunday). Please make sure your students are completing their required work.
I also reminded students that they need to continue working on their prototypes for our current project. Students who are working with a partner but cannot meet with their partner due to the current pandemic must create their own prototype at home.
Last but not least I also reminded students today of several online resources that I expect them to access and be actively engaged in (included in one of my recent blog posts). The next online assignment will require their engagement with these resources!
Please let me know if I can be of any help and how I can support you during our online learning experience!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
