STEAM Toy Projects Due Friday 11/6/20 at 3:00 p.m.

Dear STEAM Families,

This is a friendly reminder that all STEAM projects and Google Slides presentations must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. on Friday. This project is worth 50 summative points. Students will be presenting their projects in class next week on Zoom!

Students, please use your day off from school tomorrow (Tuesday, November 3) to catch up on the project if needed!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Saleh

STEAM Project

Hello, STEAM Families,

The students in STEAM Enrichment started working on their STEAM toy projects last week. The final projects and presentations are due next week Friday. Students will be required to present their projects on Zoom in addition to having their Google Slides presentation completed.

I have kept this week’s learning lab sessions open for ALL students who need additional support during our asynchronous time. Please make sure your son/daughter logs in on Zoom during their scheduled asynchronous time if they need any further support with the project. This will be a 50 point SUMMATIVE project and will be the first grade of the second marking period. I am concerned that there are some students who are not taking it seriously as far as the time, detail, and attention it requires.

Parents, please help me to support your children by following up with them at home and ensuring that they are working on their projects during asynchronous time. As we have mentioned before, the school day ends at 3:10 and many students’ grades are declining because they are not completing their asynchronous work.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter!

Salina to Host the Ford Motor Company STEAM Box Giveaway!

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)

On Thursday, October 22nd from 3:45-5:45, Ford Motor Company will host a STEAM Box giveaway in front of Salina Elementary for families from the Salina Community!

Volunteers from Ford Motor will be distributing Ford STEAM Boxes from the Ford STEAM Machine. The STEAM Machine is their mobile STEAM museum!  The goal of the STEAM Machine is to start inspiring students to think of their futures in STEAM and to inspire the next generation of Ford Engineers!

The STEAM Boxes are an at-home boxed activity for kids aging from 8-13. They can work on the activity independently or in a group to build a cardboard Ford Mustang GT. The model is motorized, can drive down the table or on the ground, it has working headlights and has a working horn too.

Families at Salina who have students in grades 4th-8th, are invited to drive down the street in front of Salina Elementary to receive the STEAM box through their car window.  One STEAM box per family!  The STEAM box giveaway will be from 3:45 until 5:45 OR until all boxes are distributed.

See you on Thursday!

Revised Schedule for Count Week (October 5 – 9th)

Wednesday, October 7th is the Official Count Day. We will be running a different student schedule during the week of October 5th. Students will follow their entire schedule during the morning each day this week. This will help the school get a more accurate student count. The student count is important because this is how the District receives funds from the State to operate schools.

There will still be asynchronous learning each afternoon. This will follow the A-Day/B-Day remote learning schedule. In addition, we will be starting to implement in-person learning labs on a very small scale. Teachers will be contacting students and parents to schedule these learning opportunities.

Monday, October 5th is a B-Day.

Meal Distribution Feedback

The Dearborn Public Schools District is looking to get feedback from parents and students on our current meal distribution system.  Ultimately this feedback will help determine the direction of the program for the remainder of our virtual learning phase.   QR code flyers will be placed in the meal bags this week linking to the surveys. Below you will find the survey links for Salina families and the community to complete. Thank you!
