Dear STEAM Families,
Yesterday, I introduced our final project for STEAM for this semester. Students will be designing and creating a prototype of a toy that can be used for a SPECIFIC child with Cerebral Palsy (based on the information they read in their ASSIGNED “Child Profile”–students must keep reading to understand this part). The toy must meet the therapeutic goals and interests of the child.
The information for the project can be found on the PLTW Design & Modeling course website as well as in the last folder in the “Materials” section on Schoology. All students are required to complete the project. If students will not be in school, they must still work on and/or complete the project and presentation at home. No students are excused from completing the final project for STEAM.
To find the information about this project, go to “Materials” and scroll down to the blue folder at the bottom titled “Final STEAM Project S1”. Click open the folder.
-The first link will take you to the PLTW course where it explains what the project is about and includes a video that explains the design problem.
-The second link (that has the word “PRESENTATION” in the end) is the Google Slides template you will use to document your use of the Engineering Design Process throughout your time working on this project.
-You will only need to use ONE of the links that include “Child Profile” in the title. You will open up the Child Profile Number that matches your GROUP/TABLE NUMBER in class (Example: If you are a part of Table/Group 3, you will open the link that says “Child Profile 3”; if you are a part of Table/Group 5, you will open the link that says “Child Profile 5”, etc.).
-The last two links in the materials folder are videos that help to give you a better understanding of the physical challenges that people with Cerebral Palsy face. This information, as well as the information that is in the video in the PLTW course, will help you to understand what you have to keep in mind when you are designing your toy prototype.
Please email me if you have any questions about any part of this project (remember, you will be creating a prototype AND documenting how you’re using the EDP by completing the Google Slides Presentation Template–that means there are TWO parts to your grade for this project).
Sincerely,
Mrs. Saleh
