Discipline Policy

Students are expected to be on time to school and class. This year they are expected to wear their UNIS LANYARDS with PBIS focus cards EVERY DAY to class. They are expected to bring all necessary materials to class (pencil, pen, paper, books, folder and assignment planner) and be ready to work. Students should be positive, respect others, and should try their best in class. Good listening and positive sharing will be practiced daily. Students are expected to be kind to others; Unis Middle School is a bully-free zone.

Occasionally, students will forget the classroom rules. Our school follows PBIS – Positive Behavior Intervention Support. PBIS is a great system of rewards for your child. PBIS involves a focus card system, designed to both reward and redirect the behavior of our middle school students. PBIS will be explained in each of your child’s classes.

Homework Policy:
Homework is to be finished at home and returned the next day. Each teacher’s homework policy will be explained in his/her individual class.

Absent work:

Students will have the number of days that they were absent to turn in their assignments – if the student is absent for two days, he/she will have two days to turn in their assignments for full credit. If the assignment is not turned in by the due date, it will be considered late.

If you have any questions, or would like to schedule a meeting, please feel free to contact us at 313- 827-1700. You may make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress at our individual planning times.

Sincerely,

Mr. Sameir Abdulla, 8th grade
Mrs. Donna Barranger, 7th grade
Mr. Steven Drinkert, 6th grade
Mrs. Alexandra Houssaiky, 8th grade
Mrs. Layal Issa 7th/8th grade
Ms. Myra Jones, 7th grade

Please return this portion of the letter.

I have read my language arts letter with my parent(s) or guardian(s). I understand the classroom rules and PBIS expectations. I understand that I need to wear my PBIS lanyard every day to school. If I fail to follow school expectations, I understand the consequences. I will wear my lanyard, use my assignment planner, and bring my materials to class every day.
