Welcome Back Students!

Dear Families,                                                                                                September 2019

Welcome to second grade!  I am delighted to be your child’s second grade teacher and I look forward to sharing his/her learning experience!  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  My name is Mrs. Sabra and I am a graduate of Wayne State University where I received my degree in Elementary Education.  I am holding a Master’s degree in the art of teaching and a Bilingual Endorsement.  I had the opportunity to teach first and second grades before and am looking forward to teaching second grade again this year and being a positive part of your child’s education.

The following information is important for the beginning of the school year:

Lunches/Snacks:

  • Our daily lunch time is at 12-12:38. Your child should make his/her lunch choice in the morning.  Please discuss the options on the lunch menu with your child so they will be aware of his/her lunch choice.
  • Each child may bring a healthy snack to eat around 10 o’clock.  Children should not bring candy or sweets.  These items will be sent back home with your child.  Individually sliced items such as fruits and vegetables are recommended.  Other items such as goldfish, crackers, pretzels, cheese, yogurt, or fruit snacks are acceptable.
  • Your child may bring a small water bottle to keep in their desk.  I recommend the kind with the pull-up top to help reduce any accidental spills.  Also, please label the bottle clearly with your child’s name.

Specials:

Please provide your child with a pair of gym shoes to wear during physical education (Gym) on Tuesday!

Homework:

I will begin sending homework for your child later this month.  I have provided a homework folder for your child and s/he should bring this to school each day.  In addition, your child should read for 20 minutes each night.

Classroom Behavior:

I believe that each child is responsible for his/her own behavior.  The PBIS classroom management program allows children to make behavioral choices in school.  Students who choose appropriate behavior will be rewarded in a positive manner that helps develop self-esteem and responsibility.  Students who choose inappropriate behavior will be subjected to consequences outlined in our class PBIS plan, and will be encouraged to make a better choices in the future.

We have a great year ahead of us! We’ll be reviewing a lot, learning even more, working on lots of projects and of course having tons of fun along the way! I look forward to meeting all of you and I am excited to be part of your child’s academic journey this school year! For any questions, concerns, appointments or special requests please feel free to contact me at sabrag@dearbornschools.org or call on (313) 827-6400.  Our class’s iblog website is: https://iblog@dearbornschools.org/sabrag in where I post the spelling list weekly, as well as events happening in our class / school.

Important Date/s:

Open House is on Thursday, September 12th from 6:00 -7:30

Parent Meeting will be on Tuesday from 11-11:40 in room #207.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sabra
