The kindergarteners Learned about Peace and different Peace symbols after reading a book about Peace.  They created one of the peace symbol using oil clay.

Then, they learned about the primary colors. They used paper plate and pieces of masking tape to add a vertical line and two diagonal lines before painting.

Students used a sponge and yellow paint to  cover the plate.

After that, they added blue on top of the yellow. They discover that a new color was made when yellow and blue were mixed. They made the discovery of the new color on their own.  Great surprise!

The next time, students added the last primary color on top. Their reaction to this experiment was amazing.

Miller students are learning about Peace and how to have Peace in their home,school, city and in their country. We read a book about Peace :  Peace by Wendy Anderson Halperin.

Students used the symbols of Peace to create their artworks. Students learned about Primary Colors and used to design their Peace symbols.

Also, they learned a song about Peace.

The Arab American National Museum’s (AANM) SURA Arts Academy is back and better than ever!  In the 10-week course, photography students will explore, document, and learn the art of photography.  Students will have the opportunity to speak with professional photographers and explore their community through the lens of their camera.  This semester, students will focus on issues of identity, community, social justice, synergy, unity, and culture through not only their camera lens but through social media, as students take control of our Instagram page!  The program will take place at AANM every Tuesday, Starting Oct 3^rd – December 12^th from 4:30-6:30pm.  As with all SURA classes, the students final work will be displayed in AANM’s gallery space in Spring of 2018.

Welcome back to Miller school. I will be the art teacher for your kids. I will be teaching grade  fifth and fourth two times a week for 45 minutes. The rest of the grades will have art for 45 minutes and one time a week.

Tomorrow, you are invited to visit the art room during the OPEN HOUSE between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. to meet me, have a tour of the art class, and ask any questions you might have.

I am looking forward to meet all of you tomorrow and to talk about how to help your kids be successful artists.

Congratulations  to Hawraa Saleh, a kindergartener from Mrs. Mroue’s class,  for having her artwork selected to be shown during the Dearborn Highlights exhibition!  It is an honor to be one of only a few students to have their work represent the Dearborn Schools in this display.

The exhibition is currently hung in the Padzieski Art Gallery inside of the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center through Wednesday, June 28, 2017.  The show is free and open Tuesdays through Fridays from 12pm to 6pm and on select weekends. The Gallery can be reached by phone by calling 313-943-5377 and the DCAC website provides more information at dcacarts.org.

The Art department will also recognize her talent at the June 12 School Board meeting.  She will be receiving a certificate of recognition.

The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is pleased to announce that SURA Arts Academy Summer Camp registration is now open!  During the summer camps, students will embark on daily field trips to different parts of metro Detroit, exploring, documenting, and photographing their surroundings!    This semester, students will focus on issues of identity, community, social justice and culture through not only their camera lens but through social media!  The program will take place Monday through Friday during the weeks of July 17 and July 31, from 10am-4pm (before and after care for students is available for a small fee).  As with all SURA classes, the students final work will be displayed in AANM’s gallery space in Spring of 2018.
