The International Peace Day was on September 21.
Students at Miller celebrated the International Peace Day by working on a peace unit in Art.
The kindergarteners filled the inside of their big peace symbols with dots of primary colors. Also, they drew their own peace sign with their favorite primary colors. Then, they worked on making a rainbow flag, another peace symbol, using the primary and secondary colors.
The first graders used the primary colors to create a pattern on a coffee filter. A spray bottle was used to spray the colors and create new ones. The flowers ended up having the colors of the rainbow flag, another peace symbol. Students got inspired by What Does Peace Feel Like? book by Vladimir Radunsky and wrote their own poem using the five senses.
The second graders made a three dimensional dove mobile using their hand print for the body and a coffee filter for the tail. Different kinds of lines were used to decorate the tail with primary colors. Students colored the beak and added eyes with primary colors.
The third graders are working on a book of the elements of art. The first page covered the first element of art, line. Students designed their peace dove using different kinds of lines and the three primary colors. Then, students took a quiz about lines to show their knowledge of the different kinds of lines.
The fourth graders are finishing up their peace collage using peace symbols, lines , and patterns using mixed media.
The fifth graders are still working on a scratch artwork using the letters of their names, lines and peace symbols to create beautiful scratch artworks.
