Russian Dolls (4th Grade)

The 4th graders are learning about the Russian Dolls.

Last Week, students wrote what they know about Russian Dolls in the RAN chart.

Ms.DiMeria, our Miller speech therapist, was our guest speaker this week. She shared her knowledge about the Russian culture and specifically about the Russian dolls. She showed the students different sets of nesting dolls that she bought as souvenirs from Russia. Kids learned where Russia is on the map and learned Russian greetings.

I showed the students a slide show of different sets of Russian dolls and some facts about them.

The students had to review  what they put in the RAN chart and move the information to the right column.  Also, they were encouraged to add new facts.

Mask Making with Papier Mache : (5th grade)

January, 2016

Papier Maché Masks:

5th graders are learning about cultural masks.  After watching a power point presentation about cultural masks, students started to have an idea  how each culture has a specific way and purpose for creating masks.  This will help the students to imagine how they would like their mask to look like.  Students are asked to research and pick one mask to make one in the same style with paper maché. They used chrome books to search, find, and save the photo of the cultural mask to their drive.  This will allow to  look at it even from home to see what kind of details they need to work on when they come to the art room,

This week, The students started to work on putting the papier maché over the mold that would work well for their chosen cultural mask.
