(Switzerland/2017-directed by Petra Volpe) It’s 1971 in Switzerland. Dutiful housewife Nora is “forbidden” by her husband to take a part-time job. As her frustration grows, Nora begins to resist the rules of her male-dominated society, eventually finding herself at the forefront of her town’s suffragette movement. Nora’s newfound celebrity brings threats and marital turmoil, but by not backing down she convinces the women in her village to consider going on strike – and in doing so, makes some startling discoveries about the meaning of liberation. Alvin Waddles has delighted Detroit music lovers with performances in a variety of musical events including the Detroit International Jazz Festival and the Detroit Festival of the Arts. For this performance in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Mr. Waddles will feature his work with Music Ministries of several churches; among them, the historic New Bethel Baptist Church, Hartford Memorial Baptist and Hope United Methodist in Southfield, MI. where he has served as the Director of Music since 1995. Takes viewers on a photographic timeline that makes up the story of the Detroit hip-hop scene. Since the emergence of Eminem and his movie 8 Mile, and the recognition of the genius of the late J. Dilla, Detroit has seen a deep underground scene emerge and gain national recognition.
