Self-Portrait (5th Grade)

Fifth graders learned how to draw a grid by folding their paper three times and tracing the lines . The horizontal and vertical lines of the grid were used as guidelines to help the students draw the details of the self-portrait.  One side of the grid was used to draw half-of the self-portrait.  The other half was used to write the name of the student.  Students used different kinds of lines to design their work.  Then, these lines were traced with crayons.  At the end, students learned how to mix colors to find the right skin tone for the face.

Students were introduced to patterns and were asked to use patterns of lines and colors to design the other half of the artwork.
