Today, my fifth graders started to work on a community project called “ Empty Bowls“. Students are learning how to make a clay bowl to donate and to be sold at the Empty Bowls Dinner on Monday, November 21, 2016. The money will be used to help feeding the hungry. The event will take place at Park Place Banquet Hall, located at 23400 Park Street in Dearborn (2 blocks south of Michigan Avenue at Outer Drive).
The Art Department has been organizing this event in Dearborn for the last 25 years. The proceeds will go to Gleaners and Blessings in a Backpack. These two organizations are known for helping feeding many families in our area.
Students are learning how to transform a 2D slab of clay to a 3D clay bowl by using a mold.
I will be adding photos of the students working on this great project.
- Cutting the leaf shape out of a slab
- showing the beautiful leaf
- Taking a time to cut neatly
- Team work in the art room
- Smoothing the edges
- Fifth graders painting their clay bowls.
