Mask Making with Papier Mache : (5th grade)

Papier Maché Masks:

5th graders are learning about cultural masks.  After watching a power point presentation about cultural masks, students started to have an idea  how each culture has a specific way and purpose for creating masks.  This will help the students to imagine how they would like their mask to look like.  Students are asked to research and pick one mask to make one in the same style with paper maché. They used chrome books to search, find, and save the photo of the cultural mask to their drive.  This will allow to  look at it even from home to see what kind of details they need to work on when they come to the art room,

This week, The students started to work on putting the papier maché over the mold that would work well for their chosen cultural mask.

Some students had to use a plastic gallon jug of milk as a mold for their mask.
