Field Trip Tomorrow

We are going to the fire house tomorrow.  We leave at 9:30 am.  I have three parents going with me, and that should be plenty.  We will be back around 11:00, so your child does NOT need to bring a lunch.  This is a free trip, so do not send money.

Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for a field trip.  Gym shoes are best because we will be outdoors for part of the time and they may have to climb stairs. Girls should not wear dresses or skirts because we will be crawling on the floor.

Sign and return Star Math report

Today, your child brought home their Star Math report. This is from the test that we took on the computer last week. Please read the results that I have highlighted in yellow, sign and return to school.

The report will list if your child is progressing at a kindergarten, first grade, second grade or third grade level.

Pay close attention to the highlighted area that explains things that you can do at home to practice.

The UPSC song

In math, we are learning how to create and solve story problems. We learned this catchy tune to help us remember the steps. I am attaching a YouTube link to the song. If your child watches the song on YouTube, please monitor them! Not everything on YouTube is kid-friendly!

Homework

Please do your spelling homework, math subtraction drill sheet, and try out xtramath as well… I just checked in with my xtramath website and saw that Omran, Ali and Amneah have already started using it. Great job!

Overall, our class did much better on the spelling test this week. Keep up the good work everyone!

Field Trip 10/3

I will need about 4 or 5 parents to go to the firehouse with us next week Thursday.  I will take the first 4 or 5 parents that sign up to go.  Please remember, you can not bring younger siblings with you.  Parent volunteers will be expected to help supervise a group of students, not just their own child.

Fire safety

Today Sgt. Rhodes from the Dearborn Fire Dept. visited our classroom. We learned about fire safety and even got a fire safety coloring book. Next week, on Thursday morning, our class will be going to the firehouse to practice getting out of a house safely during a fire. The field trip permission slip went home today, if I do not get it back, your child cannot attend. There is no cost.

This week we will learn:

Math: we are learning addition facts including doubles, +10 rules, and fast facts.
We will also be taking the STAR Math assessment in the computer lab tomorrow.

Reading: we are continuing to add strategies to our daily 5 menu. This week we will focus on reading strategies to use when you get stuck on a word. We will also be taking the SRI assessment in the computer lab on Thursday.

Writing: this week we are completing the district writing assessment. Last week we published our first narrative paper in preparation for the assessment.

Social studies: we are learning about local history.

Science: we are beginning to do science experiments, we will be exploring various science tools this week. Last week we learned the scientific method, and we will put the scientific method to practice this week.
