Welcome back!

Welcome back to school after our Winter (Christmas) break. The month of January is a very busy month in kindergarten. We will continue to see our LLI reading groups, but we will also be giving our Middle of the Year assessments. At this time, we will reassess the students on the same literacy tasks that we gave in the Fall. We expect to see lots of growth in our students! Continue to read each night with your child, and don’t forget to practice their blue LLI words as well!

What’s new in LLI?

By now, your child has a book bag, inside you will find 1 or 2 books and a small bag of words. Each night your child should read the book with you, take time to ask your child to find a word on the page “Can you find the word ‘see'”? “Show me the word “Come””. Also, don’t forget to practice reading the sight words quickly and continue to work on letters and the sounds that each letter makes.

Have fun together!

What’s going on in our LLI groups?

Your child is working on a number of beginning reading strategies including:

Voice/Print match: “point to each word as you read it”
Return Sweep: “When I finish reading one line of text, I know to continue to the next line. left to right”.
Beginning sounds: “What sound do you hear at the beginning of “Dog””?
Illustrate a story: “I can draw a picture to match the story, and label it with the sounds I hear”.
Writing my name: “I can write my name while holding the pencil correctly and form my letters properly”.
