Parent Math Meeting Thursday 3/12
Dear Parents,
On Thursday March 12th, we will have our second parent meeting. The first was to inform you about how we are teaching ELA. This meeting is about Math. We need at least 1 parent to come to the meeting as we will be doing Math activities you can do at home with your child. The kids will be at the meeting to show you how to do games designed to help them with their Math skills. The meeting will start in the classroom at 9:00 and will be finished by 10:00. It is important for you to come to this meeting as your child will see how important their education is to you. We look forward to seeing you there.

Math 3D shapes
The 3D shapes that your children are collecting need to be kept at home. I am sending a project assignment home this week and the boxes/shapes will be used for a homework assignment.
Spelling Words for the week of March 9:
- where
- why
- what
- when
- wheat
- while
- which
These are the spelling words your child should be practicing at home. The spelling pattern for this week is –wh. Make sure your child is doing the spelling homework in their spelling/poetry notebook on a daily basis. Test will be on Friday.
This week we will learn: 3/9
Reading: we will be revisiting sentence structure, retelling stories and using details to describe stories.
Writing: We will be writing narrative stories with a beginning, middle and end.
Math: we will continue to learn about 2D and 3D shapes.
Science: we will be exploring magnets
Social studies: we will be learning about how our environment is modified to help suit the needs of the people that live there.
Homework: 3/2
Social Studies: please help your child create a map (including a key) of their bedroom. This is due Wednesday. If you have a friend or relative in the other first grades, you might notice that our map project is smaller in size. I am requesting that you do NOT use poster board for this project because I do not have the space near my room to display such large projects.
