Your child is working on a number of beginning reading strategies including:

Voice/Print match: “point to each word as you read it”
Return Sweep: “When I finish reading one line of text, I know to continue to the next line. left to right”.
Beginning sounds: “What sound do you hear at the beginning of “Dog””?
Illustrate a story: “I can draw a picture to match the story, and label it with the sounds I hear”.
Writing my name: “I can write my name while holding the pencil correctly and form my letters properly”.
