Today we did our news and history for bellwork.

Then students took out their maps they were supposed to do for homework of bryant middle school.  We then exchanged maps in class and students created a t-chart writing down similarities and differences they saw in their classmate’s map compared to their own.  We exchanged maps 4 times.

Homework that will be due on Friday will be to change a 3D object into a 2D object, similar to mapping out our world which is a sphere onto a flat surface.  Here is the homework assignment:

Not so sure about the weather tonight, but hope to see you at Open House!

Thank you

Today in class we finished the Activity Atlas assignment in their world explorer textbook.  Since that textbook is not taken home, we had to do it in the classroom, so if anyone was absent, they may borrow a book to work on this at home.

The assignment was pgs. 4-9, complete #s 1-7  on a loose leaf sheet of paper.

Today in class we also labeled a world map and discussed it.

Then,  for their homework assignment, I am having students map out, to the best of their abilities, Bryant Middle School.  They need to have a key/legend and a compass rose to go along with their map.  They should include all major rooms, as well as hallways and classrooms.

This assignment will be due tomorrow!  We will look over their maps in class.

Tomorrow is a late start, as well as Open House at 6 p.m.  Remember, open house is NOT conferences.  If there is anything you would like to speak about with me, you need to e-mail me and set up a date.

Thank you!

Today in class, our bellwork assignment was to create a T-chart and write down 5 things you like about social studies and 5 things you don’t like about it.  Then they were to write a short paragraph below the chart beginning with this sentence: “Social Studies will be different this year because…”

We then took a pre-assessment, concerning things they should have learned in 6th grade, and some things they will learn in 7th grade.  It was not graded.

Students then did an activity drawing the world map, on a blank sheet of paper, completely from their memory.  This will be saved and given back at the end of the year.

Tomorrow they are with advisory all day .  If you are my advisory student, please bring something to color with tomorrow.

Thank you

Syllabus and parent letter signatures are due on Monday!

Hello Parents!

Please constantly check this blog (or subscribe)  for updates about what is going on in your child’s social studies classroom.

Today we discussed how to work on bellwork.  Bellwork on Mondays and Wednesdays will consist of looking at 3 news topics, and 3 things from “This Day in History.”  Students are then to do 5 minutes of silent reflective writing, where they write their thoughts, ideas and opinions on any of the topics presented.
This will keep the students updated with what is going on in the world, and also get them writing more.

We also went over the syllabus today, along with the parent letter.  I have attached these two items.  Please review it, sign BOTH, and have your child bring it into class on MONDAY (some classes I said Friday, but we have advisory activities all day Friday).

Please read the parent letter, it explains who I am and also how to subscribe to my blog.

Tomorrow we will have a pre-test on History and Geography.  We will also work on some other procedures and activities.

Thank you
Mr. Piche
