Sept. 26th, 2014

Students received their new books today.  Please keep in mind that these books are BRAND NEW!!  NEVER BEEN USED!  So students are now responsible for taking care of them.  We plan to use these books for a long long time.  Any damage done to them students will be responsible for paying.  So one thing for homework is book cover.

I gave them a sheet to work on in class.  They need to complete the worksheet that correspond to pages 2-3 in the textbook.  Here is the worksheet (JUST THE FIRST 2 PAGES!!!!)

chapter 1 reading notes

They also need to do the vocabulary for chapter 1.  I have an outline of how they should do their vocabulary in their notes.  Here is the outline:

scaffolded notes for vocab

They need to define all of these words in their notes from chapter 1.

SO, there are 4 things for homework:

1.)  Book covers
2.)  Worksheet (map of africa and questions)
3.)  Vocabulary for chapter 1
4.)  PROJECTS!

BOOK PROJECTS ARE DUE ON MONDAY!

Have a great weekend

Sept. 23rd, 2014

Today students took the assessment on Geography skills, basically it was on everything we have covered so far this year.  It was an open note test.  Most students finished it very quickly.  For those who need more time, I will give them some time tomorrow (we didn’t have the WHOLE hour to take the test).

I also checked bellwork today while they were taking their test.  So if any student was absent, it is their responsibility to let me know they were absent so I can check their bellwork.

Tomorrow we will go to the library to work on our 5 Themes book project.  Here is the info for the project again:

I can help students tomorrow if they have any questions.  But I want them to use this time in the library to do research on their countries.  They may use books, internet, magazines, or whatever is available in the library.  This will be our only day to do this.  Everything else must be done at home.  They are due on September 29th.

Thank you

p.s.  just a reminder, please make sure if your child is absent that they are checking this blog.  I don’t want them to come to me in class and say “what did I miss” or “what assignments did I miss?”  They are responsible for finding out that information on here.

This project will be due on SEPTEMBER 29TH.  Nothing will be accepted AFTER OCTOBER 2ND.

On Tuesday will be our first test.  Students have been given a study guide that has all the information they need to know on the test.  It will be an OPEN NOTE test!  Students can use any of their notes they have taken in class.  I will not accept anything printed from this blog.  If they print notes, they NEED to write them into their notebook.
We will review for the test on Monday.

Today in class we continued with the 5 Themes of Geography.  We went over the homework that was due today and then students turned it in.

I then passed out a graphic organizer where students were to create a web from a graphic organizer using definitions and examples of the 5 Themes on their graphic organizer.  On the back of the sheet was some more questions dealing with the 5 Themes.

Today was ‘Constitution Day.’  In class we went over what was the constitution and what rights does it provide the people of the US.

After having a discussion and watching the video on the Constitution, I put the students into 10 groups (one for each amendment of the Bill of Rights).  They were to create a poster that would have 1) a Title, 2) the original text, 3) kid-friendly text, and 4) a picture.
Each group was to create their poster about their designated amendment.

Tomorrow we will continue with the 5 themes of geography and students will be given a project to work on.

I plan to have our first test on everything we have covered either next Monday or Tuesday.  Students will be provided a study guide beforehand.

Thank you

p.s. students who were absent today do not need to worry about the poster for the amendment

Today in class we began the 5 Themes of Geography.  Most of this was a review for the students, however many of them definitely needed the update.

Here is the powerpoint I presented where students were to copy down for notes:
