I actually showed some photos of my travels in China and Thailand of different Buddha statues as well.

Here is the PPT on Buddhism

I can’t believe the break is almost over!!  Time goes by so fast.

Last week on Thursday we started on Buddhism, but did not finish it.  Unfortunately I don’t have the powerpoint for Buddhism to attach to the blog right now (its on my school’s computer), so I will do it on Monday.

Friday I was out so students watched a video on Buddhism.  Here is the link to the video if you are interested in watching:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIfXlfsbYOw

Monday we will finish up Buddhism and begin Christianity.

Extra Credit:

For those who were concerned about the extra credit (which is doing the reading notes for the chapters on different religions), they will not be due until later next week.  Once we finish the unit on World Religions is when it will be due.  I will not have the Buddhism reading notes as an option for extra credit.

Thank you, and enjoy the remaining time off!

Today in class we finished up Hinduism and started Judaism.

Here is the PowerPoint on Judaism

judaism

They should complete this chart of the 5 religions as we go along:

5 Major World Religions table-map

Tomorrow we will begin Buddhism

EXTRA CREDIT OPTION!

Since we are not reading the chapters in full, students can read the chapters on the religions and complete the reading notes.  They can read chapters 11, 12, and 15.  Here are the reading notes:

ch 11 origins judaism reading notes

ch 12 judaism reading notes

ch 15 hinduism reading notes

Again this is just extra credit.  They more work they do the more points it will be worth.  I am thinking fully completed reading notes for a chapter will be about 15-20 points.
For the reading notes, they do not need to do the preview and processing and the beginning and end of each one.

Thank you

Today in class we went over Hinduism.

Students read different sections in chapter 15, summarized it in groups, and presented their section to the class.

I gave students a chart to fill out as we went along the powerpoint presentation.  We will do this for each religion, so use the PPT to fill out the chart.  Here is the chart:

Tomorrow we will finish with Hinduism and begin with Judaism.

P.S.  Please bring colored pencils to class tomorrow!

Today we began World Religions.  We discussed the 5 major religions of Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.

I shared a video that basically sums up all of the major religions very well.  Students watched this in today’s class, but I encourage everyone to watch it again.

I also showed another video that depicts the spread of religions through the last 5,000 years.  Please have students watch again.

Here is the PowerPoint in which I was using today regarding the 5 religions.  Students were to take notes in their notebooks, so whoever was missing today, have them copy down the definitions from the PPT in their notes

Today in class we basically finished up with chapter 9.  Students finished their reading notes and we discussed the processing activity on the last page.  We answered the essential question.  Then we took an open book “quiz” in class for chapter 9.  This will only be a formative grade, but students could use their books and partners to finish 16 multiple choice questions.

Unfortunately I cannot attach the quiz, so if any students were absent, they can just get it on Monday.

Monday we will begin World Religions and discuss the 5 major religions of Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.  We will spend about a week on this.

Thank you, have a good weekend!

Today and yesterday in class we conducted our role plays about the different social classes from ancient Egypt.  As we went through each class, we also went over the reading notes for each section.  Any students missing these days are responsible for completing these notes on their own.

For homework, I assigned the ‘Processing’ activity on the back of the reading notes.  Students are to compare and contrast their school social pyramid to that of ancient Egypt’s.

Reading notes:

Tomorrow we will finish up chapter 9.  There will not be a test on this chapter, the role plays will count as their assessment for this chapter.

Next week we will begin world religions.  We will be on this topic for about a week.

Thank you

Yesterday and today in class students have been preparing and rehearsing their role plays about their specific social class.  Today I informed students to conduct the ‘Dress Rehearsal,’ using all of their costumes and props.

Monday we will begin our role plays.

Here are the instructions for the role plays.  One social class is two pages

In chapter 9, we are discussing the different social classes and their lifestyle from ancient Egypt (priests, scribes, artisans, peasants, and government officials).

For this chapter, we are going to be conducting an interactive dramatization, or a role play, to bring about the lifestyle of each of those social classes.  Students will be working in groups to perform their role plays, and they need to bring in props, costumes, and anything else to help bring it “to life.”  They will have all day tomorrow to prepare, and we are going to start presenting on Friday.

Here are the instructions for each of the 5 different social classes (one class is two pages, there are 5 classes total):

Students are encouraged to have fun, and they may add anything they like to the role play, but it needs to include the steps shown in the directions.

Students were also asked to read their corresponding section and complete the reading notes to that section

Today in class we began chapter 9, Daily Life in Ancient Egypt.  This chapter will discuss the different social classes that existed in ancient Egypt, what they jobs were, and what their life was like.

Today students read sections 1 and 2, and needed to complete section 2 of the reading notes (as well as the preview activity).  If they didn’t finish section 2 notes, they need to finish them for homework.

We also completed the word wall for chapter 9 vocabulary.

The letter for the tour of ancient Egypt was due YESTERDAY!  Students who did not turn it in yesterday have already lost points, but still have until Wednesday to turn it in.  Here is the rubric:

letter final draft rubric

I was very upset yesterday by the amount of students who didn’t turn in their letter.  They had way too much time to do it and there was NO REASON for anyone not to have finished it.  I don’t want to see this trend continue.  We are only half way through the school year.  For those who did turn it in on time, thank you

Any questions please e-mail me
