Today students took the chapter 22 assessment on the Emperor of Qin.

I also checked their chapter 22 reading notes and their bellwork.

When they were finished, they were to work on their illustrated dictionary for chapter 24:  The Silk Road.  This will be our last chapter that we will cover on ancient China.  Following China we will begin ancient Greece.

HOMEWORK:

Illustrated dictionary for chapter 24.  Both blue AND BOLDED terms need to be part of their dictionaries.  There are 9 words in total.  That will be due on Monday.

For extra credit, students can read chapter 23 on the Han Dynasty, and complete the reading notes for it.  They do not need to do the Preview and Processing sections for the notes.  ALso, under each section it will say ‘Note: if your class is not doing the activity, skip the following.’  Just follow those directions and skip that part under each section.  This will be due on Monday

Today in class we finished up section 5 and completed the notes.  We then went into section 6, read it, and completed the notes.  This was our last section in the chapter.

HOMEWORK:

Students need to complete the ‘Processing’ assignment at the end of their reading notes, end of section 6.  They will make either a Wanted poster if they feel the Emperor of Qin was an ineffective leader, or they will make a commemorative plaque if they feel he was an effective leader.  They need to color it, have 3 reasons why, and illustrations for each reason.  This will be due on WEDNESDAY!

Today we continued on chapter 22, and discussed section 5: Ending the Opposition.  We talked about how the Emperor of Qin was criticized by Confucian scholars and what he did to those who opposed him.  We also conducted a fun ‘act-it-out’ where we would “bring to life” the image on p. 237 of confucian scholars being thrown into a pit, and books being burned.

Today we did some review and then watched some videos on the Shang dynasty and the Emperor of Qin.

This video shows some good footage about the Emperor of Qin, rising to power, building the Great Wall, and constructing his tomb (the terracotta warriors).

We only really watched from about 7:00 until about 24:00 minutes.

Today we continued to learn about Qin Shihuangdi, the first Emperor of China.  We read section 4 about building the Great Wall and completed the notes for it.

We also performed an act-it-out, where we “brought to life” the image of building the Great Wall.

6th hour took their chapter 20 assessment today.

Other classes, we discussed what makes a great leader.  In chapter 22, about China’s first emperor, we will learn about certain things he did and students will decide whether or not he was an effective leader.  Its still a debate even today by modern historians.  So we went over what qualities would make a good leader and had discussions about that.

HOMEWORK:

Chapter 22 illustrated dictionary is due on MONDAY.  There are only 5 key terms they need to do.
