Today we continued with chapter 26: The Rise of Democracy.
We finished with section 4, Tyranny, so any absent students need to finish section 4.
We then simulated democracy in the classroom, and started to read section 5 along with notes. If students didn’t finish it is not homework, we can finish it later.
Sorry it has been a few days since I have posted on the blog. I am coaching track, so that is also taking up a lot of my time. My apologies.
We have started, the last two days, on chapter 26: The Rise of Democracy. Yesterday and today we have worked on sections 1-4 in the textbook, and completing the reading notes for it.
If anyone has been absent, make sure to complete the reading notes for sections 2-4. Here are the reading notes for chapter 26:
Today we started ancient Greece. Students had to read ‘Setting the Stage’ from pages 268-269 in their books, then had to work on a map with questions relating to it.
Here is the map with questions (only the first TWO PAGES!!):
Monday we will begin chapter 26: The Rise of Democracy
For that lesson, I will need some help from students. I need them to e-mail me their favorite song. Have them e-mail the name of the song and the artist, attached with the downloaded mp3 file. If they don’t have an mp3 file, then sending the name and artist is OK…but no guarantee I will use it (because it’s difficult for me to download songs). The songs need to be school appropriate!
My e-mail: picher@dearbornschools.org
HOMEWORK: All due Monday!
1. Illustrated dictionary for chapters 25 and 26, BLUE TERMS ONLY
2. Map of ancient Greece
3. e-mail favorite song with name, artist, and mp3 file attached
HOMEWORK: There is a homework assignment that students will have to complete BY WEDNESDAY!
They will have to create a “billboard” advertisement that would have been seen for a traveler on the silk road. They need to create it on a separate sheet of paper. Here is the criteria:
LATE ESSAYS! I will continue to collect late essays for the next two days. If they are not turned in by Wednesday, then they will get a zero. 5 points off each day late
PLEASE BRING COLORED PENCILS OR MARKERS TO CLASS TOMORROW!
Today the final drafts were due!! If they didn’t have them turned in today, they will be able to turn them in the Monday we get back. For each day it is late, they will lose 5 points.
If they finished the essays, then there is no homework over break!
Happy Spring Break! Have a great holiday. Safe travels!!
Today we continued chapter 24: The Silk Road. We worked on sections 3 and 4 which talk about the Eastern and Western Silk Road. Then we worked on our reading notes for each section.
ABSENT STUDENTS:
You need to read sections 3 and 4, and complete those sections in your reading notes. Here are the reading notes for chapter 24:
I apologize yesterday for not getting the blog up. There were some problems with the site and couldn’t access it.
So yesterday I checked to see if the rough drafts were completed by the students. Any student who did not have their rough draft lost 5 points (unless they were absent on Friday or today).
Then we peer edited their rough drafts, using the rubric as a checklist. Here is the rubric and IBC charts again:
FINAL DRAFT IS DUE ON THURSDAY! Students MUST have their final drafts typed and printed. My suggestion is to complete it early, so there is no trouble with printers the night before it is due. Please do not e-mail your essays, I will not print them out for you. Students need to learn how to find a printer if you don’t have one (library, family, friends, neighbors, etc…)
For those students who will not be here Thursday because of vacation, they may either turn it on before they leave, or can turn it in when they get back.
End of yesterday and today we began learning about The Silk Road. Students will learn how this vast trading route that connected East Asia to Europe changed the world as we know it today.
Here is a video I showed them to introduce the Silk Road
For chapter 24 reading notes, yesterday we did the preview, and today we did section 2. Here are the reading notes:
Today, students received their work for a new assignment…a 5 paragraph essay!!
The essay will be on the topic we have been talking about for almost the last two weeks. “Was the Emperor of Qin an effective leader?” They will write an argumentative essay.
