Today in class students turned in their artifact paragraph and their chapter 5 illustrated dictionary.  If students were absent on Monday, they do not need to worry about the paragraph assignment.

Also today students received their tests from chapter 4.  Make sure they double check that the numbers were added up correctly.

Today we started chapter 5:  Ancient Sumer.  We will learn about whether or not the ancient Sumerians were in fact a civilization.  We started chapter 1 by reading section 1.

Due on Tuesday is the Chapter 5 illustrated dictionary, creating it with the 10 BLUE terms from chapter 5.  They DO NOT need to do the black terms.  Here is a template for the chapter 5 illustrated dictionary, students can, if they wanted to, print this off and do it on here, or they could just do it on loose leaf paper:

Today in class we started chapter 4:  The Rise of Sumerian City-States.  In this chapter we will talk about how humans went from small Neolithic farming villages to large complex city-states.  We read and did the notes for section 2:

Students needed to turn in their chapter 4 illustrated dictionaries.   They needed to do this on their own sheet of paper, nothing was handed to them!  They needed to use all the boxes for the blue terms, and just define the black terms.

Tomorrow we will continue with chapter 4

Oct 26th, 2015

Today in class we turned in the comic strip story pages.  If they didn’t turn it in, they need to complete this by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Since we have been discussing the Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages, I showed an episode of The Flinstones, who were supposed to have lived in the Neolithic Age, and students would write and discuss the accuracies and inaccuracies of the show comparing to living in the Neolithic Age.

For homework on Wednesday, students need to do the chapter 4 illustrated dictionary.  THIS TIME, they need to create the sheet themselves on a separate piece of paper.  They need to use the same model as what we have done before.  Use all the boxes for the Blue terms, and only define the black terms.

Today in class students worked on their story page comic strip.  For all classes this will be due on Monday.  They will work on their own individual story page, and then turn them in with a group.  They have an EXTRA CREDIT option as well.  On the back of the template page, they can create another story page with another topic from chapter 3 (food supply, shelter, community, jobs, or trade).

Oct 22nd, 2015

Today in class we went over the reading notes for sections 4-7 in chapter 3.  If any student was absent today they need to complete those notes:

chapter 3 reading notes

Tomorrow we will begin a small project where students will create a small comic book story page about one of the topics of the chapter (stable food supply, shelter, communities, jobs, and trade) and compare and contrast the difference of life in the Paleolithic to the Neolithic ages.

Here is some information about it (though the first page is not all exactly right, I have explained what they need to do in class)
