Today in class we watched a video on the Qin Empire which discussed the the Great Wall of China and the Emperor of Qin’s tomb which consists of the Terra-cotta warriors.

The processing from chapter 22 will be due on Monday.  They can find this at the end of their reading notes.  They need to either make a commemorative plaque if they felt the Emperor of Qin was an effective ruler, or make a ‘wanted’ poster if they felt he was an ineffective ruler.  This needs to be colored as well.

Today we began Chapter 22: The First Emperor of China.  Before we began the chapter, we discussed what makes a good leader.  We went over qualities of leaders (past, present, real, fictional) and why those qualities make for good leadership.

Tomorrow the chapter 21 open book quiz is due.

Chapter 22 illustrated dictionary is due Thursday.  5 blue words and 5 black words, they need to do the whole illustrated dictionary.  Here is a template they can print if they want to use it:

Today in class we finished up chapter 21 on the 3 Chinese philosophies.  We worked in groups to complete a triple Venn diagram to compare and contrast the 3 different philosophies.  This will be a graded assignment.
For those who were ABSENT today, please be sure to see me tomorrow to get the assignment that you can do on your own.

Also, I gave them a take home, open book, quiz for chapter 21.  They will need to have that completed by Wednesday.  Again, any absent students be sure to see me to get the quiz.

Yesterday we started chapter 21:  Three Chinese Philosophies.  The 3 philosophies that we will be learning about are Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism.

We have read and complete notes for section 2 about the Zhou dynasty and how these 3 philosophies came to be.  Students need to have section 2 of their notes completed.

Today we discussed Confucianism and students got to “experience” the teachings in class.  They also needed to have read section 3 and completed the questions for section 3 as well (I will not be printing out sections 3-5 notes for this chapter.  Students will just be copying the questions on a loose leaf paper and answering them).
