Today was the chapter 24 assessment on the Silk Road.  I checked their reading notes as well, so any absent students be sure to remind me when they take the test to have me check their notes.

Their processing assignment, the silk road billboard advertisement, is due tomorrow.  Must be colored, have 4 products hand drawn, and reasons why people would want these products!

We are finishing ancient China and moving into ancient Greece.  Our next chapter is 26:  The Rise of Democracy.  This chapter’s illustrated dictionary will be due on Wednesday.  Blue terms (all) and only define black terms:

Today we finished up reading chapter 24 and completed section 5 of the notes.  Yesterday we read and completed notes for section 4.  Any absent students need to have these completed.

Yesterday and today we also watched some videos on the silk road.  The first one is from CNN and a reporter takes the journey of the silk road in today’s world.  This episode is the first one and in China, showing the silk market and production of silk.

EXTRA CREDIT OPTIONS

Chapter 23:  The Han Dynasty extra credit is due on Wednesday (not Tuesday).  Students must print off the reading notes from the blog (iLearn) and complete them.  They can either choose to do the reading notes, or the processing (worth less).  Skip the preview.

Spring break is here!!

There are two extra credit options that students can work on.

1. Students can read chapter 23:  The Han Dynasty and work on the reading notes for that chapter.  They don’t need to do the preview, and also in each section it will say ‘if your class is not doing the activity, skip the following’ they can skip that too.

If they’d rather do the processing and only the processing they can do that too (but they can’t do both.  The processing is worth less extra credit points than the reading notes.

SECOND OPTION:
The 19th District Court has their annual Law Essay Contest.  This years topic is the Miranda Rights.  I have supplied to the students the sheet that explains everything.  It is due by April 13th to me.  They have a chance to win $100 gift card to Barnes and Noble.  Participation is usually pretty low so the chances of winning are high!

Also, IF they decide to do this, they will receive extra credit in my class as well!  The more they do, the more they get!

Today in class we did a lot of review from prior lessons, way back to ancient Egyptians, world religions, and ancient China.  We used a world geohistogram to apply our prior knowledge and connect ideas from old lessons.  I also introduced the Silk Road which is our next chapter we will be working on.
