Dec. 5th, 2016

Today in class we talked about the Code of Hammurabi.  We read about the history of it, what it was, who created it, and other important information and then students read some of the actual laws from the Code of Hammurabi.  These laws are seen as very cruel and barbaric by todays standards.

Students will create a poster (summative grade, 30 points) about the Code of Hammurabi.  They need to write 1. Summary about the code, 2. Summary of their feelings on the code, 3. list of 10 laws as if they were school principal (keep punishments school friendly), and 4. a picture representing their list of 10 laws with explanation.

Here is the Overview sheet, laws from the code, and their rubric:

We also watched a couple videos on Mesopotamia and the Fertile Crescent.  They are a little silly, but actually pretty informative on the content.

Nov. 22nd, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!

Today in class their chapter 5 assessments were due.  They needed to choose 7 modern artifacts of the 7 characteristics of civilization and write a sentence for each one stating how it relates to it.  The last page of the reading notes has the “processing” which gives all the information:

ch 5 reading notes

If they didn’t turn it in today they can turn it on Monday after break.

EXTRA CREDIT OPTION!
Students have the option of creating a Sumerian city-state model by either using a video game program (like Minecraft) or a 3D model.  Here are some of the instructions needed for the city-state:

extra-credit-project-sumerian-city-state

As for now, please ignore the rubric, the grade of how much this is worth may change.  But the instructions on the top is what they need to follow (like putting signs around the city-state to show the 7 characteristics).

If they do it on the game of minecraft they will have to find a way to take a video touring the city-state and either bring the video to me, or upload it onto youtube and send it to me.  Here is an example that a student did last year:

They also may work with up to a group of 4 of any of my students or Mr. Blake’s students.

DUE TUESDAY AFTER BREAK, NOVEMBER 29TH

Other than that, NO HW!

Have a great holiday
