CHAPTER 1 TEST IS TOMORROW!

Students need to have completed their reading notes and illustrated dictionary because I will be checking them tomorrow!  ALSO, I have decided I will check their bellwork tomorrow as well, so they need to have their bellwork in a notebook, or 3-ring binder, nice neat and organized for full credit (along with the other stipulations that I have talked about in class).

Students need to study their study guide and vocabulary for the test.  I will post a quizlet link here that they can study the vocab from:

Students also today got their study guides for chapter 1 test.  This is not for a grade, but to help them study.  We will review the study guide tomorrow in class.

CHAPTER 1 ASSESSMENT WILL BE ON THURSDAY

Also, another resource for them to help study is to use Quizlet.  There are many games and activities they can use to help study their vocabulary terms.  Here is the link for quizlet:

Today we continued chapter 1 and read sections 2-4 and completed the reading notes for sections 2-3.  Here are the reading notes for chapter 1 (ignore the first 4 pages):

chapter 1 reading notes

If students lose their reading notes then they must print off a new page from here, I will not give them another copy.  If there is NO WAY they can print off the notes (library, friends/family house), then I need a signed note from parents saying there is no way they can print off the notes and I will give them a copy.

The notes are not homework, we will work on them in class and will be checked once we finish the chapter.

ALSO, I forgot to post this the other day, but these are the tabs for dividers students need in their 3-ring binder.  This will help them keep their stuff organized.

Yesterday we worked on Unit 1 setting the stage.  We read page 3 and completed the map I gave the students.  The map was to be finished in class, but if anyone didn’t finish it they could turn it in today.  Here is the map with directions on what to do on pages 2-3:

unit 1 setting the stage map

Today we started chapter 1: Investigating the Past.  We will be learning about 3 social scientists (archaeologist, historian, geographer), what they do and how they do it.  In this chapter students will take on the role of an “archaeologist” and will “investigate” the past by looking at cave paintings left by prehistoric humans.  This will be done later this week.

So far students have read sections 1-2 and were given the chapter 1 illustrated dictionary.  The dictionary will be done as we go through the chapter and will be due when we are finished with the chapter.  All students need to do now is the columns ‘definitions’ and ‘in your own words’ (that’s where they put the definition into their own words).  If students lose their dictionary, they MUST print it from here, I will not give them another copy.

Today we finished up Constitution Day.  We discussed the Bill of Rights, created posters on them, and presented them to the class.  The posters will be for points, but if anyone is absent today they will be excused from this assignment.

Here are some videos we watched for the Constitution and Bill of RIghts:

Today and tomorrow we are going off our regular content of ancient world history and we will be discussing the US Constitution.  Constitution Day is on Sunday, the 17th, and the social studies teachers will be discussing the basic ideas and principles of the constitution.

Today we watched a couple videos and then started to work on dissecting the Bill of Rights.  Students were put into 10 groups, each given 1 amendment, and asked to break it down.  Tomorrow they will create a poster of their amendment and present it to the class.

Monday we will get back to our textbooks on ancient world history

Today in class students took a pre-test that tested them on what they were going to learn in 7th grade Social Studies.  It was not graded because they haven’t learned it yet!  At the end of the year, we will do a post test to see how much they have learned throughout the year.

Today the signed syllabus was due!!  If they did not have it today, they may turn it in tomorrow, but will lose points.
