Today in class students continued working on their chapter 5 reading notes.  Whatever they didn’t finish with the notes will have to be done at home.  I will check the notes on Wednesday.  Posted here are the artifacts that students were looking at as evidence to find the characteristics of civilization in Sumer.

Today in class we did section 3 on stable food supply.  Over the next 2 days, students will be working with their partners to determine was ancient Sumer a civilization or not.  They will be looking at Sumerian artifacts as evidence to relate to the 7 characteristics of a civilization.

EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT

This is the largest extra credit assignment I will give all year.  Students can create a 3D model of a Sumerian city-state OR they can use the video game Minecraft to create one as well.  They need to include all 7 characteristics within the model (using signs to show each one).  Here is the rubric for the assignment:

Students can work on their own, or up to a group of 4.  They may choose anyone from any of my classes (NOT Mr. Blake’s class though).  This will be due either Friday 11/17 or Monday 11/20.

The chapter 4 processing is due tomorrow.  Students are to make a real-estate advertisement for a Sumerian city-state.

The directions are on the 6th page on the following document under the headline ‘processing’.  This also needs to be colored.

Today in class we took the chapter 4 quiz on the map (p.34) and the vocabulary.  This was for 11 summative points, and went on this card marking.

I also checked their reading notes from chapter 4 as well.

Yesterday their chapter 4 illustrated dictionary was due.

The only grade still not entered for this card-marking is the chapter 3 assessment.  I am still working on it and will hopefully have them all done by the end of this weekend.

Yesterday in class students took the chapter 3 vocab quiz.  This was worth 10 summative points.  I also collected their foldable and checked their reading notes and bellwork.  Besides the quiz, all grades have been entered into their grade book so far.

Today we watched an episode of the Flintstones and discussed how it is accurate and inaccurate to the Neolithic Age (they are supposed to be the ‘modern stone age’ family, which is the Neolithic Age).

I have given students their chapter 3 assessment rubric.  They have 2 options; 1. write a 3 paragraph essay, and 2. create a comic book story page.  They are to describe the changes that took place between the Paleolithic Age and the Neolithic Age and discuss why that’s important.  Here is the rubric:
