Today in class we still had kids work on their NWEA language test.
All students have been assigned an article on https://newsela.com/. This will be for points, and is due on Friday. Please e-mail me if you need the class code.
Tomorrow we will talk about BCE and CE, BC and AD.
Yesterday was Constitution day so we did a mini-lesson on the US Constitution.
Today we reviewed for the chapter 1 test that is on Friday.
Chapter 1 Test is on Friday! I will also check their reading notes, bellwork, and they will turn in their Chapter 1 ID. Here is everything they need to prepare for Friday:
Yesterday in class students did a gallery walk around the room and pretended they were ‘archaeologists’, and were exploring cave paintings and artifacts left by prehistoric humans.
When they were finished they needed to work on their reading notes.
Today in class we finished up the reading notes for chapter 1 (pages 5-8 on the following attachment):
Yesterday and today in class we started on Chapter 1. We read sections 1-4 and completed the notes for those sections. Here are the reading notes needed for chapter 1:
The notes are NOT homework, but if any student is absent they need to make sure they complete what they missed at home. These will be due at the end of the chapter.
Also, here is the chapter 1 illustrated dictionary again. This is also due at the end of the chapter:
We worked on Unit 1 Setting the Stage map found on pages 2-3 in the book. We worked on the map yesterday and today in class. The map will be due on Monday.
If students finished early, they were given their chapter 1 illustrated dictionaries (ID). This is NOT due on Monday, however it will be due when we are finished with chapter 1 (which will be in a couple weeks). Here is the dictionary:
Yesterday in class we took a pre-test that tested students on everything we will learn in the year. They will take a post-test at the end of the year. This was ungraded.
We also organized our binders, here are the divider sections:
Today in class, students received their textbooks. They will keep these books all year. I have recorded their information and any current damage done to it. Any additional damage done to the book the student is responsible for replacing.
Students worked on a textbook scavenger hunt to become familiar with the book. This is due tomorrow if they didn’t finish it:
We have made it through our first week of school. I feel I already need a 4 day weekend!
This week we have been going over class procedures, rules, expectations, etc. We also have been doing ice-breaker activities and team-building exercises.
Here is my syllabus that explains everything the student will need and know for the upcoming school year. This syllabus needs to be signed by both student and parent and turned in on Tuesday, September 4th.

Today we also started chapter 34: From Republic to Empire. We will talk about how Rome went from a small Republic to a massive empire spanning across the Mediterranean Sea.
We worked on sections 1-2 today. Here are the reading notes:
The chapter 34 illustrated dictionary will be due on Monday. However, I will collect their textbooks by Friday. So make sure to get the definitions done before Friday. Here is the dictionary:
Any missing textbooks, or any water damage to the book ,or any other major issue with the book, the student will owe $90 to replace the book.
Any books that need rebinding will be $11 to replace
