Week 1: 9/5-9/8

Tuesday, September 5, 2017:

Please reference the course syllabus under the “Class Info” page above.

The following form is due by Friday, September 8:

We spent the little time that we had together discussing policies/procedures and filling out a form with information about last year’s Algebra 1 experiences.

For tomorrow’s class activity please bring a small photograph of yourself.

By next week you should have a 1″ binder, 6 dividers and loose leaf paper.

Wednesday, September 6, 2017:

We began the hour with a quick “Get-to-Know-You” class bingo. Hopefully you made a new friend or learned something new about a classmate!

Students spent the remainder of the hour completing and decorating the Figure Me Out! intro activity. This activity required students to come up with and solve their own different kinds of equations in which the solution will give your classmates some insight into something about you. Look for some of these to be hanging in classroom at Open House next week!

Thursday, September 7, 2017:

We began the hour with “The Paper Airplane Challenge”. Students were put into groups and given 20 minutes to design the furthest flying airplane with their team. This allowed students to get practice working in groups, and understand the expectations and norms of group work. (The winning plane flew 38 feet 11 inches!)

After a debrief from the Airplane Activity students completed the following Algebra 1 review worksheet. This activity required students to find the mistake(s) in the solution to a linear equation, describe the mistake using complete sentences, and solve the equation correctly. This was our first homework assignment of the year and must be turned in on Friday. Missing homework/classwork assignments will not be tolerated.

Friday, September 8, 2017

Today we assigned our class calculator and Chromebook numbers. Students then enrolled in their Khan Academy section for each class, and we spent time doing some Algebra 1 review on Khan as well as an Algebra 1 review quiz on the website Quizizz. We will officially begin Algebra 2 material on Monday, so please make sure that you bring your 1″ binder and six dividers!
