Science- The Water Cycle Song

In science we have been learning about the water cycle. Just thought it would be fun to share a video with you that we have sung in class to better understand the water cycle.

Safety Alert

Lindbergh Community

To ensure student safety and maintain communication, I am sharing the following information to inform and not to alarm you regarding an incident experienced by one of our students.

During dismissal, one of our students was walking home on North Waverly when a white Explorer with tinted windows started following him, it honked its horn at him and appeared to drive and stop as the student continued to walk.  It wasn’t until the student got to his car that the other car left.  The student did the right thing and stayed away from the car.  This incident has been reported to the proper channels.

Please make sure to review stranger danger with your child.  Below are a few tips if needed:

  • If students walk or ride bikes to school, it is best to do so in groups
  • Be alert of your surroundings
  • Identify safe houses and adults in the neighborhood
  • Report any suspicious activities to an adult

We appreciate your help as we work together to keep all of our students safe.Zainah TibaPrincipalCharles A. Lindbergh Elementary School

Math Homework

Please have your child go on Zearn for at least 20 minutes tonight and Tuesday night. Thanks so much for your continued support!!!

Help your child become a better READER- Questions to ask your child while reading fiction text and nonfiction text.

Parents,

As you know we are asking 2nd graders to read 4 to 5 days a week for a least 20 minutes, and record the reading they do independently on their monthly reading log.

Today you will find a bright pink paper attached inside your child’s Everyday Folder. Please keep it attached in there. Thanks so much! It is part of the 2nd Grade Reading Plan. It will be right behind your child’s new November Reading Log. It is two sided. One side of the paper has a list of questions you could ask your child when they are reading a fiction text and on the other side there is a list of questions you could ask your child when they are reading a non-fiction text. Using these questions with your child is a helpful way to promote book talks and to have your child share what they know about the book they are reading.

Currently, 2nd grade students are moving from giving verbal responses on the reading they do in class to giving written responses to the reading they do in class. At school your child responds to reading in many ways. One way students respond to reading in class is by writing their reading response in their person Reading Response Log. Students love to share their response logs with classmates too. To help your child with reading and reading responses at home you could also have them practice responding to some of the books that they read by writing responses too!

Parents often ask how can I help my child in reading? So I am sending home this fiction and nonfiction book question sheet in hopes to help give parents something to support their child’s reading as home. It’s great to talk about books and to dig deeper to understand your child’s understanding of the text they are reading. I hope you enjoy this useful tool. Thanks so much! Happy reading!!!

Social Studies Test for Unit One- What Is A Community?

Today your child will be bringing home a stapled packet of their social studies tests/scores. On top you will see a small slip that breaks apart the Unit One District Test they took on the computer. The middle slip just states their percentage for the Unit One District Test, and the third is their written test they took. Please review, sign, and return the test (packet) by next Monday. I will be returning this back to you later. This helps me to know you received your child’s scores. Thanks so much and Happy Halloween!

Science- Mixture Snacks

Yes, it’s true. Your child needs to bring in a mixture as a snack for the following week (if they can). We want to come up with as many different mixtures as we can. Today we reviewed that a mixture is made of two or more things (matter), and is a physical change. Some examples of mixtures your child can bring in for snack are…

-chocolate chips, pretzels, and marshmellows

-strawberries, blueberries, and grapes

-Cheeze-Its, chips, and pretzels

See what fun mixtures you can create together. Keep in mind that we do have tree nut and peanut allergies in the classroom. So no nuts or peanuts please. Have fun! Students will be sharing their mixtures everyday!!!

Reading Homework and Reading Logs

It is encouraged that your child read 4 to 5 days a week, and that the books that they read independently are logged with parent signature on their Reaading Logs. All students have reading bags with appropriate leveled books. Thanks!

Science Review, Science Books and Upcoming Test

Today your child will be bringing home the following letter, their science review, their science book, and a folder of completed work.

October 24, 2019

 Dear Parent(s),

Here is your child’s Properties of Matter test review.   To help your child study for his or her science test, please help your child complete the attached science review, and then use it to study with your child.  They should be using pages E6-E23 in their science book to answer their questions and then to check their answers. The same pictures on the review pages are in the book so you may want to use the book page instead of the copied page to look at pictures (for example to answer question 9 A and B use page science book page E27since it is a clearer picture than the copied picture).  Please also use the graded work in their Properties of Matter folder to help them review and study too!  We are currently finishing up the end of this unit so please look in your child’s Everyday Folder next week for additional graded sheets that they can also be used for review.   PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD RETURN THEIR SCIENCE BOOK TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY SINCE WE WILL BE REVIEWING AND DOING MORE ACTIVITIES OURSELVES.  Our science test will be on Thursday, October 31st.   Please also return their completed review on Wednesday, October 30th since it is a part of their homework grade, and because we will also be checking it and reviewing so that they can take it home and study the night before too!  PLEASE DO NOT SEND THE REVIEW BACK TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD BEFORE Wednesday, October 30th. Thanks!

                                                                             Sincerely,

                                                                             Katie Robins
