Today we started our lesson on counting coins. On last week’s and this week’s lesson plans we have asked for students to make bags of coins (with help) at home. These bags need to have 10 pennies, 20 nickels, 10 dimes, and 4 Quarters. These bags will need to travel between home and school for the money lessons in this unit. This will really help students to get familiar with what the front and back of these coins look like, naming the coins, and give them a real life math manipulative to use when solving money (coin) problems. I would also recommend making a sheet with each type of coin taped to it (one of the front and one of back (my example in Schoology only shows the front), with the name and amount written by each coin so that your child can use it as reference. An example of this Coin sheet has been put into today’s math assignment. Thanks so much! Happy counting!
