6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be focusing on our heat, temperature, and thermal energy unit. We’ll continue to explore the topic of thermal energy in discussions, activities, and experiments over the course of the week. On Wednesday during class, students will begin building model homes for our thermal energy home heating project.  Our goal is to design and construct a model home that will conserve thermal energy; we’ll be testing out our models on Friday, November 9th. Parents – If you are willing and able to donate any lab supplies for our upcoming project, this isn’t mandatory, but it is certainly appreciated. Please see my previous blog post (dated Saturday, November 3rd) for details.
Homework –
11/5 – Finish your Builder’s Notebook blueprints & designs (Step 1-3) and bring in any donated lab materials on Wednesday.
11/6 – No School Today – No homework! 🙂

STEM Apps –
This week, we’ll be kicking off our Modeling & Design unit, where students will be challenged to use drafting, architectural, and design skills to transform images from two-dimensional sketches to three-dimensional models. We’ll be creating thumbnail sketches, isometric drawings, and multi-view images to learn more about perspective and the world of engineering and drafting.
Homework –
11/5 – Continue working on your thumbnail sketches & Part 1 questions
11/6 – No School Today – No homework! 🙂

STEMbots Robotics Team Update!

Hi STEMbots Robotics Team!
I just sent out an electronic copy of our November team meeting calendar, please check your inbox when you have a moment!

Please note, we had to shift several meeting days and times around in November, due to Parent-Teacher conferences and the Thanksgiving holiday. I also added in a few extra optional meeting days when I could, to help us prep for our upcoming competition on December 1st. Please note that the window of time that we meet on optional days is a bit shorter than regular meeting days.

I’ll be sending out much more information about the December 1st competition at Riverside Middle School in Dearborn Heights as those details trickle down from the First Robotics company (the competition sponsor and event planner). In the meantime, parents, if you’re interested in volunteering on the day of the competition (Saturday, December 1st), we could certainly use a few extra hands on deck. Please let me know if you’re available and willing to help out!

Team – Don’t forget, we’re meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, October 30th) after school from 2:30-5pm, instead of on Wednesday, due to Halloween.

See you soon!

Sincerely,
Miss Roberts
