This week, we’ll be working on our Earth, weather, and climate unit. During this time, students will be learning about concepts such as atmospheric conditions, ocean current trends, weather patterns and storms, and how the sun and Earth can effect weather conditions.
Homework –
12/5 – Bring in a clean, empty 20 ounce water bottle/pop bottle with a cap on it for class tomorrow!
12/6 – Finish your Cloud in a Bottle Lab Report 


STEM Apps –
This week, we’ll be continuing our Modeling & Design unit, where students will be challenged to use drafting, architectural, and design skills to transform images from two-dimensional or three-dimensional sketches to Computer-Aided Designs. During this time, students will work on an interior decorating-inspired project where they will design their own “dream bedroom” using the CAD program SketchUp.

Monday, December 3rd

Robotics Competition – Saturday, December 1st!

Wednesday, November 28th

We’ll be completing construction of our cereal boxes on Thursday, November 29th so we can “pitch” our finished products in class on Friday, November 30th.

Monday, November 12th

6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be wrapping up our heat, temperature, and thermal energy unit. We’ll continue to explore the topic of thermal energy in discussions, activities, and experiments over the course of the week, and then move into a short unit focusing on kinetic and potential energy. On Thursday, November 15th, students will take a quiz to assess their knowledge of thermal energy, heat transfer, kinetic energy, and potential energy. In terms of quiz prep, students should be familiar with our science glossary (vocab) terms, class notes, recent assignments and experiments.
Homework –
11/12 – Study for the types of energy quiz on Thursday! (Review notes, science glossary terms, homework, and experiments).
11/13 – Complete the What is Energy Worksheet #1-14 & study for the types of energy quiz on Thursday! (Review notes, science glossary terms, homework, and experiments).

Friday, November 9th

6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be focusing on our heat, temperature, and thermal energy unit. We’ll continue to explore the topic of thermal energy in discussions, activities, and experiments over the course of the week. On Wednesday during class, students will begin building model homes for our thermal energy home heating project.  Our goal is to design and construct a model home that will conserve thermal energy; we’ll be testing out our models on Friday, November 9th, and we’ll be evaluating our models on Monday, November 12th.
Homework –
11/9 – Have a great weekend! 🙂  Home heating lab reports will be due at the end of class on Monday!

Wednesday, November 7th

6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be focusing on our heat, temperature, and thermal energy unit. We’ll continue to explore the topic of thermal energy in discussions, activities, and experiments over the course of the week. Today during class, students began building model homes for our thermal energy home heating project.  Our goal is to design and construct a model home that will conserve thermal energy; we’ll be testing out our models on Friday, November 9th. Parents– If you are willing and able to donate any lab supplies for our project, this isn’t mandatory, but it is certainly appreciated. Please see my previous blog post (dated Saturday, November 3rd) for details.

11/8 –  Continue working on your Home Heating Lab Report (this will be due at the end of class on Friday, after we finish up our home heating evaluations).
