6th Grade Science Homework & Deadlines
All work must be “turned in” via Google Classroom and IXL by the deadline.
6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be studying, analyzing, and investigating the connections between force and motion. Students will be examining concepts such as Newton’s Laws of Motion and the difference between balanced & unbalanced forces. In addition, we’ll be focusing our efforts on preparing for the Science Fair, which will take place on May 4th, 2020. During this time, students should be finishing their experiments at home, collecting data, and taking photographs of their experimentation process.
1 – Class Notes – Newton’s Laws of Motion (Complete on Monday) – Read over the Newton’s Laws class notes handout. Cut out the notes and paste them into your notebook. If you do not have a printer at home, write the notes in your notebook instead. (Since these are class notes, there is no “due date” for this assignment, but you’ll need to look this over before starting this week’s experiment).
2 – IXL Science 6.G.9 – Balanced & Unbalanced Forces (Work on this anytime Monday-Wednesday: DUE ON WEDNESDAY) – Complete IXL Science 6.G.9 – you will need to earn at least a 95% to receive credit for this assignment. Since you’ll complete this work directly in the IXL website, you do not need to turn this into Google Classroom, however, YOU MUST LOG INTO IXL in order for your score to be recorded. 3 – MiSTAR 6.4.2 – Balanced & Unbalanced Forces Experiment PowerPoint (Work on this anytime – Monday-Thursday: Complete by Thursday) – You’ll be completing our MiSTAR 6.4.2 experiment at home this week. The only materials you’ll need are a partner (any family member, sibling, friend, etc…) and a sturdy wall in your house. This PowerPoint will walk you through each step of the experiment, so read each slide carefully.
4 – MiSTAR 6.4.2 – Wall Push & Pull Forces Lab Report (Work on this anytime – Monday-Thursday: DUE ON THURSDAY) – This lab report goes along with the experiment detailed in the PowerPoint (listed above – Task #3). You will need to fill out the lab report by typing your answers into the worksheet AFTER you complete the experiment. Upload and turn in your work to Google Classroom by the end of the school day on Thursday (2:15pm)!
5 – MiSTAR 6.4.2 – Unit Summary Table Worksheet (Work on this anytime – Monday-Thursday: DUE ON THURSDAY) – This unit summary table worksheet also goes along with the experiment detailed in the Balanced & Unbalanced Forces Experiment PowerPoint (listed above – Task #3). You will need to fill out this summary table worksheet by typing your answers into the worksheet. You will need to do this AFTER you have completed the experiment. Upload and turn in your work to Google Classroom by the end of the school day on Thursday (2:15pm)!
6 – Science Fair Project (Work on this anytime – Monday-Friday) – Finish your experiment, collect data, and take photos of your experimentation process for your display board. (There is no due date for your Science Fair project this week, since this is an on-going process).

7th Grade English Language Arts Homework & Deadlines
All work must be “turned in” via Google Classroom by the deadline.
7th Grade ELA –
This week, we’ll be discussing, practicing, and utilizing text dependent analysis (TDA) strategies to create evidence-based pieces of writing. Students will be comparing and contrasting different styles of TDA writing, and we’ll examine the reasons why authors must include a clear claim, evidence, and reasoning in their writing. Students will also need to continue working on Book Project 3, which is due on Thursday, April 16th (since this due date falls after we plan to return back to school, our Book Project 3 plans have not changed). All of the Book Project 3 instructions, details, deadlines, and the rubric are available in Google Classroom.
Homework –
1 – Symbolism in Literature PowerPoint (Read over this PPT on Monday-Tuesday) – You will need to read the Symbolism in Literature PowerPoint – this is available in Google Classroom. (Since you are being asked to read, there is no firm “due date” for this assignment, but you must read over this PowerPoint before completing and submitting this week’s other assignments).
2 – Symbolism & Theme in Song Lyrics Worksheet (Work on this anytime – Monday-Wednesday: DUE ON WEDNESDAY) – After reading the Symbolism in Literature PowerPoint, you’ll need to fill out the Symbolism & Theme in Song Lyrics assignment by typing your answers into the worksheet. Upload and turn in your work to Google Classroom by the end of the school day on Wednesday (2:15pm)!
3 – “The Open Window” by Saki (Read this story on Monday-Tuesday) – You will need to read the short story “The Open Window” – the full text is available in Google Classroom. (Since you are being asked to read, there is no firm “due date” for this assignment, but you must read this story before completing and submitting this week’s other assignments).
4 – “The Open Window” Plot Diagram Worksheet (Work on this anytime – Monday-Wednesday: DUE ON WEDNESDAY) – After reading the short story “The Open Window,” you’ll need to fill out the Plot Diagram by typing your answers into the worksheet. You must do this AFTER you read the story. Upload and turn in your work to Google Classroom by the end of the school day on Wednesday (2:15pm)!
5 – “The Open Window” Text Dependent Analysis 3-Paragraph Essay (Work on this anytime – Monday-Thursday: DUE ON THURSDAY) – After reading the short story “The Open Window,” you will need to write a 3-paragraph TDA essay, focused on one symbol in Saki’s story “The Open Window.” You will need to explain what this symbol means and represents, using specific examples and evidence from the text to support your claim. You must use a minimum of two quotes from the story to support your answer. Your final draft must include three paragraphs (intro with a thesis, body with quotes, and a conclusion), and it must be edited, proofread, and revised. Upload and turn in your Open Window TDA essay to Google Classroom by the end of the school day on Thursday (2:15pm)!
6 – Book Project 3 (Work on this anytime – Monday-Friday) – Continue to read your Book Project 3 novel, update your reading log, and work on your Book Project 3 project pieces. (There is no due date for Book Project 3 this week, since this is an on-going process and the project is due on April 16th, after you return back to school).

8th Grade STEM Apps Homework & Deadlines

8th Grade STEM Apps –
This week, we will be working with an educational computer programming website (Code.org) to use problem-solving skills to address computer science challenges, explore different types of educational websites, test their computer literacy skills, and study how information is transmitted between people and electronic devices. In addition, we’ll be focusing our efforts on preparing for the Engineering Design Fair, which will take place on May 4th, 2020. During this time, students will explore topics, conduct research, and identify a real-world problem that will kick off their own Engineering Design Process. All Design Fair instructions, details, deadlines, and rubrics are available in Google Classroom.
1 – IXL Science 8.C.1 Identify Parts of the Engineering Design Process (Work on this anytime Monday-Wednesday: DUE ON WEDNESDAY) – Complete IXL Science 8.C.1 – you will need to earn at least a 95% to receive credit for this assignment. 2 – Code.org – The Design Process – Unit 4, Lesson 12: Digital Design (Work on this anytime Monday-Wednesday: DUE ON WEDNESDAY) – We will continue our work in Code.org by completing the next lesson in our unit (Lesson 12). Since you’ll complete this work directly in the Code.org website, you do not need to turn this into Google Classroom, however, YOU MUST LOG INTO CODE.ORG in order for your work and progress to be recorded. Watch the embedded videos and take a look at the embedded worksheets in the lesson. You do not need to submit the worksheets for Lesson 12, since they are intended to be brainstorming activities. I will be looking at and evaluating the progress that you have made on your coded app in Code.org. 3 – Code.org – The Design Process – Unit 4, Lesson 13: Linking Screens (Work on this anytime Monday-Thursday: DUE ON THURSDAY) – STOP AFTER COMPLETING LESSON 13 LEVEL 12 – (WE WILL NOT COMPLETE THE LAST TWO LEVELS OF LESSON 13: LEVEL 13 & 14 – THE PART THAT ASKS YOU TO COMBINE AND LINK CODE WITH A PARTNER). Since you’ll complete this work directly in the Code.org website, you do not need to turn this into Google Classroom, however, YOU MUST LOG INTO CODE.ORG in order for your work and progress to be recorded. Watch the embedded videos and take a look at the new code that is introduced on the overview page (step 1). You do not need to submit any worksheets for Lesson 13, all of the activities in this lesson involve coding. I will be looking at and evaluating the progress that you have made on your coded app in Code.org. 4 – Engineering Design Fair Project (Work on this anytime – Monday-Friday) – Finish your prototype drawings (thumbnail, orthographic, and isometric) in your Engineering Notebook/Log, finish building your prototype design, update your Engineering Notebook/Log to catalog how your project is going and where you are at in the design process, test your prototype to ensure that it works, collect data, and take photos of your design process for your display board.(There is no due date for your Engineering Design Fair project this week, since this is an on-going process).
