6th Grade Science –
This week, we’ll be studying, analyzing, and investigating different forms of energy. In addition, we’ll be taking a virtual field trip to learn about fossil fuels, natural resources and different ways that we can power our planet by using renewable energy technology.
HOMEWORK
1 – IXL Science 6.Y.2 – Evaluate Claims about Natural Resource Use: Fossil Fuels (Work on this anytime Monday-Friday: DUE ON FRIDAY) – Complete IXL Science 6.Y.2 – you will need to earn at least a 95% to receive credit for this assignment. Since you’ll complete this work directly in the IXL website, you do not need to turn this into Google Classroom, however, YOU MUST LOG INTO IXL in order for your score to be recorded. 7th Grade ELA –
This week, we’ll be discussing, practicing, and applying our text dependent analysis (TDA) strategies to a novel: S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be reading The Outsiders and considering plot elements, character dynamics, themes, examples of figurative language, and how the story ties into real historical events. In addition, we’ll be reviewing literary devices and techniques to keep our skills sharp.
HOMEWORK
1 – S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders – Reading – Chapters 4-6 (Work on this anytime Monday-Friday: DUE ON FRIDAY) – For this assignment, you will need to read Chapters 4-6 of The Outsiders. PDF files of the chapters will be uploaded directly to Google Classroom, so there is no need to buy or borrow your own copy of the text. Feel free to listen along with the audio book while you read, a link to the audio book will be provided in Google Classroom as well. Complete this reading assignment before the end of the school day on FRIDAY (2:15pm).

Do Now 2 – If the Socs and Greasers were active social groups in your own school or neighborhood, which crew would you want to hang out with? Why?
Do Now 3 – There is a lot of slang used in The Outsiders – pick 2 slang words that the characters use, and explain what modern-day slang word you would replace it with. For example – The Greasers refer to police officers as “the fuzz,” whereas today, we might say “cops.”
