Welcome to “Remind”!

This year, in order to keep up with our 3 day late policy (no work will be accepted after three days of being late), I am inviting everyone to join Remind. Remind is an app that allows you to text or e-mail me with instant response. Also, I can send out reminders, (hence, “remind”!), about deadlines that are coming up. Make sure that you look for the correct class code to get the right updates.

Block A:    e-mail  agafhg@mail.remind.com  to get started

Block B homework

Due to the terrible sub report, we have been set back an entire day of work. If your name was not read off in class today, you need to complete today’s assignment on identity, as well as read ch.20 in “the Westing Game”.

** The following people did a great job, and may complete this for extra credit, if they choose:

Hayam, Sanad, Ghadeer, Emtanan, Sarah, Abrar, Rana, Omar and Saleh

This is to be completed on a separate sheet of paper, and is worth 25 points. It is not optional.

Questions are below:

  • What is an “identity?”

  • Name three identities that the characters have. Describe them in detail. (3 sentences minimum)

  • What fake identities do you notice?

Meaning, who do you think is pretending to be someone they are not? (3-5 sentences)

  • Why is identity an important theme in the novel? 3 sentences

6th Grade Final Project: “Wanted Poster” (June 8)

Scan0014 (click link to see rubric)

This is the rubric, and below is your template, for your final poster.  4 characters from your novel must be described, using the implicit and explicit traits discussed in class. Each description needs to have a picture, either hand drawn or cut and pasted.

**Any writing on the poster should be a final draft! Do not do your rough draft on the poster, it will cost you! If your handwriting is too messy to read, you need to type it. This is final work, and if I can’t read it, I can’t grade it! It should not look rushed.

Synonyms should be found for low-level, or simple vocablury words (see rubric for details).

Wanted Poster

7th Grade Final Project: Due June 8

We will do a rough draft of this final project in our notebooks in class Thursday.

You will need:Scan0013

A “tree map” drawn on a poster or large paper, that explains the following components of the book

  1. Exposition (setting, time period, genre)
  2. Characters (main characters and some implicit/explicit traits)
  3. Plot (rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution)
  4.  Theme and symbolism
  • The thinking map should have 3-5 pictures, and should show neatness and creativity
  • 3 if hend drawn, 5 if cut and pasted

The rubric is attached and I will make copies of the rough draft is you are absent/testing on Thursday. However, it is your responsibility to come forward and ask (on your own time, not in the middle of class!)

7th grade vocabulary quiz

Thursday is our vocabulary quiz on ch 7-9 of “The Giver”.

Please use your foldable to study!

The words are below:

Meticulously

Prestige

lapse

piecemeal

avert

crescendo

jaunty

excruciating

7th grade

Please make sure that you are prepared for your parts of speech quiz, as well as having read ch 6 of “The Giver” by Monday!

  • My plan for this book is to have a writing assignment, as well as a final exam during the last week of class (before grade book closes).

Let’s push ourselves for the 4th quarter NWEA! You are wonderful just as you are, think of these scores as new challenges, not a measure of how “smart” you are. How can we learn more to do better? How can we add more reading to our daily lives to increase our reading level performances?

GROWTH MINDSET everybody! We can do this!
