Tech Support – Accessing Dearborn Public School Online Learning Sites.

During this break in March and early April, classroom teachers are switching to online learning for students that have access to technology at home. The following is technology tips to help our students access the various Dearborn Public Schools online learning sites:

  • Use Google Chrome as your web browser. Firefox and Microsoft will not work for all Dearborn Public School sites.
  • Firefox and Microsoft does work with other sites such as Study Island, Switchzoo, Mystery Science, etc.
  • All Google users much be logged out of their accounts before a student can log in to their account for all Dearborn Public School sites. Closing a window or shutting down a computer does not always log out a Google account. This is especially a problem with Chromebooks.
  • The Dearborn Public School IT Department is working on a program to loan out Chromebooks for any student that does not have technology at home.
  • Comcast is offering free internet service to low income families for the next two months. Call Comcast for details.
  • Students should check their emails and teacher blogs, along with Google Classrooms, on a daily basis for the latest online classroom lessons.

During Technology Enrichment classes this year, our students have been learning how to use the various online resources from the Dearborn Public Schools. This is a good time for our students to practice these skills at home. They include:

  • Logging into their accounts using their user name and password.
  • Accessing and sending Emails.
  • Creating Google Docs
  • Sharing Documents with teachers and classmates.
  • Keyboarding Skills.
  • Logging into Clever to access online tools.
  • Using a web camera to create images.
  • Creating 3D designs using Lego Digital Designer (Free Software from Lego).

During this week, I will be updating my blog with enrichment and science lessons that our students may work on at home. Many online classroom site we use are offering free access to students at home. I will also be posting information on how to access these sites.

If you have any technology questions, please email me at trontr@dearbornschools.org. I will try my best to answer your questions.
