Middle School

Dearborn Middle Schools are currently using the Mi-STAR (Michigan Science Teaching and Assessment Reform) science resource. This resource is aligned to the Michigan Science Standards. Each unit revolves around a Unit Challenge in which students figure out what they need to know, and what they need to be able to do in order to address the challenge.

This resource is rich in all three of the dimensions of the new science standards: Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Crosscutting Concepts.

Our students will be engaged in the science and engineering practices as they are learning about the content. They collaborate with each other while doing this. They also make sense of what they are learning and doing when relating it to the unit challenge which is rooted in real world context.

This will be a challenging year, as our students become familiar with our new approach to instruction and addititional expectations of learning. Continued support at home can help your student be successful throughout this year.
