Another Student unlocks the doors to…..

“Subtraction World”!  Yes, it is true!  Ali M. decided he no longer wanted to be in “Addition World” so he worked hard and will now be working on subtraction!  Way to go, Ali!  Who will be the next person to unlock a door into a new world?  It can be you…..all you have to do is practice:)  Good luck everyone!

Enjoy your weekend and I will see all my marvelous students on Monday morning!

Reading NWEA testing and Book Check Out Tomorrow!

Tomorrow is a day for your child to shine and show how much they have learned since the beginning of the year!  This test will measure the growth of your child from the beginning of the year until now. I know they have improved and I am sure you have seen it to at home, too!  Please encourage your child to try their very best on the test:)  I know I will encourage them to take their time and really think about what the question is asking them.

Since we will be taking the NWEA reading test tomorrow, please make sure your child gets a good night sleep tonight (Wednesday) and eats a nutritional breakfast tomorrow (Thursday) morning because studies have shown that children who get a good night sleep and eat breakfast every morning do much better in school.    Once again, the reading test is more than just reading.  It includes knowing short and long vowels, prefixes, suffixes, root or base words, compound words, syllables, antonyms, synonyms, homonyms, nouns, proper nouns, pronouns, verbs, plural nouns, irregular plural nouns, past tense verbs, irregular past tense verbs, collective nouns, editing sentences, and a lot more.   At home, they can go on ixl.com, Mobymax, Raz-Kids, My On, Education City and the NWEA websites from the district, etc

Book checkout is tomorrow.  Please have your child bring their books to school so they can get new ones.

Bonus Week!

Wow!  I can sure tell that many of my Superstars are practicing their math facts at home.  Many of my wonderful little aviators were able to take more than 1 test this week during Bonus Week!  Great big congratulations are going out to the following students who completed addition and are now working on subtraction-Mazen and Mohamed S.,

In addition, we have two students who have completed subtraction and are now going to be working on multiplication!  Wow….hard work really does pay off!  The two students are…………MohaammadHussein and Mariam G.!

Congratulations to all the students who were able to take more than one test this week!  Almost everyone in the class got to take 2 tests this week.  Many students took quite a few more.  Keep up the great work and enjoy your long weekend:)

Three New Students Have Entered Subtraction World!

I am pleased to announce that Rodina, Aya, and Youssef have completed all of their addition problems and are now working on subtraction!  You all rock!  Nice job today:)

Since it is “Bonus Week”, all students will be taking another test tomorrow.  If your child passes the test tomorrow, they will keep taking one until they have not passed it.  Hopefully, everyone will be taking more than one test tomorrow.  The best way to practice is to go on Math Magician tonight.  The website is

https://www.oswego.org/ocsd-web/games/Mathmagician/cathymath.html

An easier way to get on it is to type Math Magician in the Google Address bar and then click on the first item that appears on the search page which says:  Math Magician Games – Oswego City School District

Good Luck everyone!  Hopefully we will have more people entering “Subtraction World” or maybe even “Multiplication World”!

Another Student Enters Subtraction World

Yes, it is true!  Rayan has worked very hard and now she has completed all of her addition facts and is now moving on to subtraction!  Awesome, Rayan!!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Next week, we will have what I call “Bonus Week”!   What does this mean?  It means that if your child is working on +8 and they pass it, I will give them +9.  If they pass +9, I will give them +10.  They will continue to get another level until they don’t pass it.  The best way to prepare for this is to go on Math Magician at home or practice flash cards.  This is a great opportunity for students to advance to a higher level!  Good luck everyone and remember to practice, practice, practice!
