Week of December 16

We have a very busy week ahead of us. To keep you updated on our studies.

Reading— Keep reading every night and practice the reading strategies. Use the online reading programs; they not only provide “good-fit” books but let the children get used to reading online. More and more tests are given online, so this is a very useful and necessary skill.

Writing– Our writing focus is Narratives. We will be including dialogue in our stories as well as considering the author’s point of view. A writing journal is a good way to practice writing at home. Also, at this time of year, the children can get practice writing with their thank-you’s.

Handwriting– The children continue to learn their cursive letters.

Math— We are working with the ordering, writing and comparing of numbers to the ten-thousands. After the break, we will introduce decimals. Continue learning the multiplication facts. Third graders are expected to know their multiplication facts to the 10’s by the end of the year.

Science– Our focus is forces and motion.

Social Studies– We are having a test this week on the early history of Michigan. After the break we will begin learning about the government. Also, January 13, Representative Darany will be visiting our school to collect the letters we wrote on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. He will also talk about his job.

Try out MobyMax, it is filled with many good things!

We will also have a Sing-Along this week and be viewing Polar Express on Friday.

During the break, be safe and enjoy the time with your family and friends.
