We have another busy week coming up. Our party is October 31 from 2:30-3:30.
Reading– We are practicing our reading strategies and comprehension skills. It is important to have your child read every night for 20 minutes. By the end of third grade all the children should be reading at a DRA level of 38. A book report homework assignment will be coming home.
Writing– We are going to be writing Opinion pieces. Again we we will practicing the writing process. Also, we will learn what components are necessary in writing Opinion pieces.
Handwriting — We are learning our letters. I encourage you to practice at home. Practice sheets for home use can be found on SpellingCity.
Spelling— Practice the words for the test on Friday. The goal of spelling is for the children to be able to spell correctly in connected writing. To promote this, encourage your child to always do neat work with good spelling on all their work.
Math— Isn’t it great to have the journals? Your child only gets 1. If it is lost, etc., they will not be getting another one. The journal needs to come to school every day. We are learning about measurement. Ruler practice at home will help your child in this unit. Also, keep practicing those facts. It helps the children as they work with the larger numbers.
Science– Light and sound is still our focus.
Social Studies– We are reviewing our geography skills for the district’s social studies test, which is given online.
As a reminder, all parents have a Parent-Teacher Conference Time. Those dates are coming up in November. I will send home a reminder shortly.
Habitat for Humanity– We have started our project and are learning about the work of the organization. We are having great discussions. Our November fundraiser, Coin Collection, will start in November. Also, a speaker from Habitat for Humanity will be coming in to speak to the children shortly.
If you would like to volunteer to work in the room, please contact me with some times/days. We would enjoy having you!
