Week of January 23

During the following week:

Reading- We will be discussing themes.
Writing– Our focus will be Opinion writing. We will learn how to cite evidence from sources.
Math– Grade 2 We will be working with money and measuring with rulers.
Grade 3- We will be working with perimeter and area.
Both grades need to continue practicing telling time with analog clocks.
Science– We will begin new units. Second grade will be learning about landforms and natural diasters and how they affect the land. Third grade will be learning about plants and animals and how they adapt to their environment.
Social Studies– Third grade will be continuing their government unit. Second grade will be learning about timelines and how communities change over time.
Spelling– Lesson 18 wwords were posted on Friday.

NWEA testing continues this week. I will send home their scores when the testing is completed.
Friday is a half day for students.
The writing contest ends soon. All entries are due January 31. Please check the previous blogpost — Calling All Writers — to check the details. We have good writers in our class. It would be great if they try this.
Math Night is Wednesday.
Our class WIG ends February 25. We need 100% of the students to know their addition and subtraction facts. We are at 58%. I know we can do this working together. Please practice at home.
